Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Wonderfull!
The controller that came with my PS2, when it first came out has lasted all this time, I dont know what the fuss is about. It will last forever if you take a little care of it, and not smash it around or beat it. This is the most confortable controller I have had the pleasure to use with games!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Finally the PS2 Dual Shock controller gets colourful
I cant tell you people how long ive been waiting for this to come out and in my favourite colour too!
This controller is basically the same as the original PS2 Dual shock controller but in a gorgeous transparent blue rather than black which gets boring after a while. It has the Same functions as the last controller but now for people who want to brighten up there PS2.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Nice try Mr Sony - but WAY too fragile
First the good bits - anyone who's used to the original dualshock controller will find the dualshock2 very familiar. It looks and feels almost identical, and I've yet to find another controller that feels as comfortable. The dualshock rumble adds that little bit extra to a game and the analogue sticks perform faultlessly.

The biggest difference from the original offering is the analogue buttons; the buttons effect varys depending on the pressure. Its a good idea and it works very well in some games (much better than you might imagine), but its also the controllers weakest point - these buttons are just too fragile!

Four weeks of playing SSX has destroyed a brand new controller, and I think this is totally unacceptable hence three stars (down from the five I would have given it).

My advice then:- Great controller, but save it for the games where you need the extra sensitivity and control. For a button bashing frenzy, use the original dualshock controller - its far more durable.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Quite wonderful
I've been playing games for many years now, and I've owned all of the major consoles at various stages through the industry's development. I've tasted all the controllers-- N64, DC, XBox, Gamecube, PSX, SNES, Mega Drive, all of those before-- and I have to say that the PS2's own Dual Shock 2 is by far my favourite of them all.

The controller seems to mold around the hands rather than the other way round: surely the definition of 'ergonomic'. All the buttons are placed exactly where your questing fingers expect to find them, essential in the heat of any given virtual battle. The dual analogue stick system is surprisingly functional and the ability to use them as buttons in their own right (you can press them into their sockets to function just like any other button on the pad) is a stroke of real inspiration. The shoulder buttons make excellent 'secondary' tools, far superior to the clunky triggers of the DC and XBox controller, and the the D-pad is every bit as functional as its analogue counterparts. I haven't seen the analogue capability of the face buttons put to any functional use outside of Metal Gear Solid 2 yet (where this feature is otherwise put to very good use), but they are, again, certainly a clever touch.

The pad itself is weighted nicely, giving that satisfying (and highly durable) heft we associate with quality hardware, and the rumble function is the best I've felt in any controller so far. The only niggle I can find with the DS2 controller lies with its choice in button labelling-- the four main face buttons are, famously, labelled with various geometric shapes rather than numbers or letters (as is the standard). While there's no problem with this per se, it does take a moment to commit to memory where, say, the square button is, rather than the more logical aphabetical systems of convention. The square and circle buttons are also colour-coded with similar shades of red (red and purple, to be exact), which means that sometimes on-screen directions where this colour-coding is put to use can become confusing. But these are minor niggles, and should not be taken as detracting from the comfort and design of this excellent pad.

Perhaps the DS2's greatest facet is its versatility. The controller's symmetrical design and abundance of buttons (most with more than one use) lend the controller to a huge variety of genres and game systems, no matter how bizarre some of them prove to be. Wholly recommended, and far superior to any unofficial product released thus far.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Listen up Sony!
There's no real alternative to buying one of these pads because the official ones look and are the best overall. HOWEVER, I think the life of these pads is shocking. The 'broke dont fix it' attitude from Sony is good in a sense, but it means that PS2 pads have the same problems as the PS1 ones did. The 4 directional buttons that players use their left hands to control start to get loose after continuos use, making the D-pad less and less responsive. After a while these buttons won't even come back to the neutral position and you'll find yourself veering to the left or right in driving games and running off the pitch in footy games. At around £20 a go, nobody should feel the need to replace these within at least a year, but after maybe six months, you'll start to consider it.
