Video Games : GunGriffon Blaze

I'm a mech fan it has to be said but I tend to prefer third person action as opposed to first person. When I intially looked at Gungriffon Blaze I was put off by the fact it is a first person viewpoint game however after playing it I am impressed. The game puts you in the cockpit of a giant robotic fighting machine and pits you in various missions around what is left of the world following the third world war.
You can start in the training mission to get yourself used to the controls which are easy to pick up or go straight into the thick of battle in the the harder misions.
Missions are objective based and have a time limit, from destroying all the other enemies to taking out specific targets ie a base or defending another an ally. At first the equipment you can carry is limited but as you play each mission you can collect crates from around the battlefield and if you survive the missions, can equip various additional items from anti tank missiles to shotguns as well as upgrades to you mech. The graphics are smooth and free flowing even in the thick of a fight as well as realistic, if you shoot and miss the ground you hit is thrown up, explosions can be pretty spectacular depending on what you hit and when you shoot out a wall chunks of the wall will go flying. There are also subtle touches such as radio chatter from your allies during battle as well as screams of the dying.
The only drawbacks I felt to this game were the fact that you can only play six missions although you can up the action by selecting a higher level to play at and the fact there is no two player option, what better way to enjoy an afternoon than duke it out with your friends. The time limit on the missions can be annoying at times if you are out for blood and it can be frustrating when the mission suddenly ends because you have completed all teh objectives but you feel like taking out who ever is left on the battle field! This aside if you like first person action and plenty of death and destruction then this game is for you.
