Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - The best RPG ever for the mac
I got this game as a fan of strategy games, and I was almost instantly hooked. The game has four disks, five with the extension.

The game is very clear, you start a single player game, and all the steps are clearly layed out for you. It shows you where to go to select the race, gender, class, kit etc. When it says right-click it means press control+click.

The game is especially good for it's plot, character-development and strategy. The plot is amazing you find yourself immersed in the world of your characters. You get to really know your characters, the NPCs in this game are well done, and the choices that your character chooses have a direct effect on the rest of the game. Whether you want your character to be good or evil or somewhere in between your NPCs will react to this. Character interaction is what makes this game special, you can even have romances with other NPCs. The strategy involved in this game is brilliant as you can approach a battle one way and get royally slaughtered, but then re-load and approach it a slightly different way and come out victorious.

This game is good for anyone who has an IQ point. If you haven't already, BUY IT!

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - A Discription of Baldurs Gate 2
Before purchasing my copy of Baldurs gate 2 I was thinking of comments I had heard about the game being unclear and hard to play but I was also thinking about comments i had heard from many of my friends that this was an excellent game and i should definitely buy it. As I loaded the game up i discovered that is needed to understand the game is a basic conception of the AD&D rules and these are all in the very well presented game manual anyway. I found it is better to do the full install as this saves time on loading and changing discs although in my haste to play the thing i only partook in the quick install. The game is very clear in what you should do full of gut wrenching moral decisions and dilemmas. The game is time consuming, i started before my summer holidays and i am half way through them now and only two chapters through the game.
I found the tutorial game very explanatory, if its your first Baldurs gate i strongly recommend that you, 1, read through all the info for the various character races and classes (clearly displayed at the side of the screen when selected) and ,2, play the tutorial game with the character you intend to continue with as the tutorial will automatically start you on your main game. The game comes with four discs you may be thinking wow now but when you see the huge map you'll know why they needed the four discs.
To conclude I recommend you play the tutorial game, read most of the manual and follow instructions closely. I also recommend you ignore any comments about the game being unclear it's got everything you need to know in the tutorial & or in the game manual. So if you love role playing games buy it, if you don't like role playing games, buy it anyway the game is amazing the graphics are cool and the puzzling mysteries are brain bogglingly good.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - A Different Opinion
I usually use my Mac for work, but I recently decided to buy some games to while away some time: off to Amazon, snoop around, and (two weeks later) back came Civilisation III, Age of Empires II, and Baldur's Gate II.

First in the CD drive was Civilisation, which is an excellent game, rather reminiscent of the old SimCity 2000. It stands head and shoulders above the other two.

Baldur's Gate: the game starts with (what I suppose is) the usual BS intro movie, with a preposterous 'background', and then the game starts: never mind, it's not intellectual subtlety that we're after. The various menus are over-designed 'fantasy gothic' and unclear, and there's a typical PC love of wierd icons rather than clear icons with simple balloons. First up, designing a character is nicely laid out and simple. And off I go: it's at this stage that I start working it out as I go along - movement is simply clicking on a character and then on the destination, but combat seems completely counter-intuitive, and my poor old character swiftly meets a bloody end. I riffle through the instructions: it helps to pause the game when some rotter is attacking you, issue your orders, then re-start. I try this - same result, only more elegantly performed.

It's at this stage that I work out that, hidden on one of the menu screens, is a tutorial game. Excellent! I started it and have now reached half-way through this, and I am being instructed in how to use an 'identify' spell. Click on the right button of your mouse, says the tutorial. I don't have one, you half-wit, this is a Mac I'm using, but there's no way that I can tell the computer that. Click on the right button of your mouse. Click on the right button of your mouse. Click on the right button of your mouse.

Let's have a look back in the instructions: no Mac instructions, it's all written for PC users, with references to right and left buttons and F12 keys, whatever they are. It also seems a little scanty on how to survive combat and how you are supposed to manage the rest of your group. So, it's off to the Mac OS homepage, and downloading the latest fix for this game.

Will this help? Who knows. Was this what I expected when I bought the game? No - and more fool me. Should you expect more from a game? Yes.

And my advice to you - get Civilisation instead.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - One of the best games for Mac
Consider the small game world of Macintosh, you will be most pleased to find that one of the best PC games, Baldurs Gate II has been made available for Mac gamers!

This episode starts your adventure in a dark prison and is fully packed with intersive combat and spells at the very beginning! While players from BGI will enjoy this starting, i suspect it will be a bit overwhelming for new players to BGII... But once you get used to this, you will enjoy the battles and quests awaiting.

I play this game on my G4 Powerbook with 120MB ram allocated to it out of my 384MB. The gameplay is smooth at 800x600 and the screen is beautiful. And interface is better than in BGI (now you will be paused when you go into Inventory view during battle). Numerous improvements in my opioion.

Well, if you like RPG game and owing a Mac, buy the game now! This game will not disappoint you with its extremely rich gameplots. After all, it is going to be one of the best Mac game titles.
