Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Mario Goes Advance!
When I first heard about the GBA, I was looking forward to replaying all of the old NES and SNES classics done up!

When I bought this game I was slightly disappointed to see that Mario Bros 1 was not the original NES hit, but only the arcade version. However, Super Mario Bros 2 is as good as the SNES version, so this game has gotta be one of the first games to buy for the GBA. Buy it!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - But we can't wait for Super Mario Brothers three on the GBA.
Here it is, the Advance game many people have been waiting for. Nintendo have a habit of releasing a Mario game with every console they launch. Super Mario Advance is an enhanced, portable version of the Nintendo Entertainment System's Super Mario 2.

What's interesting is that the American and European versions of Super Mario 2, and the Advance version, are the only Mario games that are not true pedigrees. In Japan the sequel was called the Lost Levels, which can be seen on the SNES Mario compilation All-Stars. Super Mario Advance is a conversion and adaptation of the quirky Japanese game The Dream Factory.

History aside, Mario Advance is a highly playable game. It features four characters, Mario, Luigi, Toad and Princess. Each character has their own attributes that make the gameplay slightly different for each of them. Princess, for example, has the ability to hover after a jump and that allows her to reach places in the game the others can't.

The graphics have been enhanced over the original game. If you enter the massive pots, you can witness the Advance demonstrating its sprite rotation abilities with revolving platforms. Some of the game's baddies have been increased in size and Mario Advance features a surprising amount of speech.

To top that, they have added a new Yoshi mode after you complete Super Mario Bros where you colect 40 yoshi eggs.

Super Mario Advance features a four-player multi-player game based on the very first Mario Bros game. Not only is this cool to play but you only need one cartridge and the link-up lead.

Overall, a classy presentation and worth the wait, but we can't wait for Super Mario Bros 3 on the Advance.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Mario Madness
Nice colourful graphics , but not anything new , no new surprises except now there are bosses , the music is fairly poor , but this will make you want to carry on till the end. There are still better platformers , but a good idea is to wait for the new sonic or banjo kazooie game coming to gameboy advance.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Weakest game in the Mario series? I think not!
Mario is the original Nintendo star, so it's only right that he should have a superb game on GBA.
Luckily for him, he does. M.A. is a brilliant and original platformer. Sure, it may just be a rehash of the SNES game where you lob turnips at badguys, but it is a real change from just jumping on them. Mario Brothers is also included in the package, but it's only worth playing in Multiplayer mode.
All in all, MA isn't THE BEST platformer on Game boy advance, but it's still a great buy!

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Supermario?
This isnt a bad game nor is it a great game either .I would say it fits in between the two somewhere .
One of the first available advance games , so as an initial game you would be compelled to be impressed , however the question lies with , impressed with this game or the more likely , impressed by the advance itself.
After the initial crowning glory of the king of the handhelds magic dies down, we begin to see that this game is far to easy and the fact that it an old nes game spoils through .
Having said that its not an awful game , just far too easy and annoyingly quirky and old .Its just a shame that some official Nintendo magazines cant be trueful and see beyond their rose tnted spectacles , describing this game way beyond the category it deserves , which is average !
