Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Pikmin - Looks can deceive!
Pikmin may look like a Pre-school education package but once you've finished exclaiming at how cute and cuddly the aliens of the title are, you'll soon find yourself in a full-on struggle to beat the clock, various large and bad-tempered monsters and some truly bizarre obstacles to find all the bits of your stricken space-ship before your time is up.

It's quite hard to co-ordinate your creatures, find the parts and avoid/kill the baddies in the time allowed so you have to think really carefully before each move. You will find yourself having to play some sections over and over to get it right, but this adds to the addictiveness of the game.

The graphics are stunning but the sound, while good for a game of this type, can get a little repetitive at times.

Finally a word of warning - don't get too attached to these little creatures - cute they may be, but they also get killed quite easily and this can cause even "grown-up" 15 year-olds to shed a tear should a lady-bird related massacre occur!

If you want a game that looks good, has easy gameplay and makes you think...this fits the bill perfectly. Enjoy!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - This game made me cry!
We bought Pikmin the week it came out, then left it alone. We felt disappointed. It all seemed such a faff. Little creatures, little spaceships. Little action. Some months later, we gave it another try. What were we thinking? Suddenly the penny dropped. This game is so cool, and such fun.

You need to stick with the original day or so of getting all your Pikmin together, sorting out your times, trying a few enemies, and then prepare to have the best gaming time of your life. The aim is to help Olimar put his ship back together, using only tiny aliens. These little guys are all so different - some good at fire, some good at jumping... you know the score. It's got the strategy element of Lemmings, but it's much more interesting and equally addictive. You become really involved with the Pikmin characters. In groups they are brave, but as individuals they are heroic - feisty, loyal, unselfish, daring. My last tiny blue Pikmin was with me for three days before succumbing to a horrible slug. I actually wept. We'd been through all sorts together.

Think I'm crazy? Perhaps. But you try it. I bet you cry, too.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - A shame to miss out...
'Pikmin' is one of those games that only comes along every so often that you can really point at and identify as an original game (should you feel the need). Games like this go sorely unplayed by so many, purely because they look too quirky (quirky's good!) or childish because of the cute graphics. There's only one problem with this game; it's far too short. Other than the length of the game, this is one of the most engrossing, original and addictive games I've played.

'Pikmin' won't suit everyone's tastes; while it's great fun to send your army of red, blue and yellow pikmin with no consideration for their own safety into battle against a giant bird, resulting in something of a massacre, the only way to succeed is to think first. Different pikmin have different abilities which you have to exploit (even if this means purposely and sadistically sending your red pikmin into the lake because you know they can't swim... ); solving the game's clever puzzles and exploring the landscape of each level really does give you a sense of satisfaction, especially when on first meeting a mind-bending puzzle you find yourself throwing the controller at the wall with shouts of 'that's impossible!'. To get an idea of what 'Pikmin' is like to play with much more character, and an army of little fellas who'll obey your every command and fight like demons even when they're the last one standing.

Aside from this game being too short (give it a week and you will have found everything the game has to offer), 'Pikmin' is a refreshing change from most games, and one that, even if you trade it in when you've finished it, everyone should play at least once.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Judge After playing
When I first saw this game I didn't like the look of it and thought that it looked too babyish but then I read a few reviews and found out that most people who bought this game actually liked it. So I decided to give it a go, now after having played it for 3 days I can say that I have no regrets about this game. I take back what I said about this game being babyish!

Gameplay: 9/10, the controls are just so easy to get used to, in my opinion the easiest "strategy" game that I've ever played on a console yet. the story is quite simple but that isn't really a big factor. It's about this spaceman called Olimar who leaves from his planet and crashes into another planet filled with Pikmin. Olimar only has 30 days to get the 30 parts of his ship back, luckily he finds Pikmin which will obey to his every command! The pikmin will break down walls, make bridges, kill enemies and many other stuff.

Graphics: 7/10, not exactly the best you can get on the gamecube

Sound: 9/10, the music goes very well with the game, and even though there's no vocal speaking in this game you can hear all the movements of the pikmin when they're working and hear when the enemies die so basically you don't need to hear the vocals.

Value: 9/10, it's likely that you're going to want to play this game again after you finish it, and if you've lost too many pikmin in 1 day or you didn't find a single part in 1 day you're prolly gonna wanna play the day again.

Overall: 8.8/10, it's got great gameplay, the graphics aren't really much of a factor, the sound's really good and you're likely to play it over and over, the only reason I gave this game a 4/5 stars is because hardly any games are absolutely perfect, I would've given it a 4.5/5 if I could!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Pikmin ain't just for kids!
I know what you're going to say.... Pikmin is a game aimed @ Children. But... the game offers much more than the childish impression will lead you to believe. This is an incredibly playable game, with a strong strategy element and some frustrating and difficult gameplay.

The game is, as expected, graphically superb. The controls are simple and quick to learn and the game itself is immersive, requiring a level of intelligence to collect all the parts necessary to guide Miyamoto's latest creation to safety. However, it does feature several cut-scenes when the Pikmin enter - but these fall naturally in the game. The occasional text on screen can become a little tedious, but does not interfere with the game.

Ultimately, this is a very credible game with more good features than disappointing ones.
