- Good quality, good value
Fantastic console, I have enjoyed it so far. I was very reluctant to buy one simply because of my experience and knowledge of Microsoft products as a software engineer, but after reading all the positive reviews on it and the fact that PS2 is a bit old now and its bound to get replaced sometime maybe in the next couple of years I decided to go for a Xbox for Christmas.
The graphics is amazing in most cases, accuracy is fantastic and the sound is great. Having a hard drive in your games console is a brilliant idea, however, like most advance PC users know swapping can be a problem sometimes. It slows you down occasionally while playing games, shame the graphics memory isn’t a big bigger.
Although I have only got few games but the range of games available is very impressive, I am not very impressed by their price though. Xbox games seem to be more expensive than others and you will find it harder to get the same special offers and discounts on them as with other platform formats but that might be because Xbox is till relatively new and as its user base expands I am sure prices will come down a bit.
I read many people complaining about the size of the controller but in my experience there is nothing wrong with it, however, I would have liked to be able to switch off the vibration from the controller directly without going through menus and also have more consistency in how different games use individual buttons on the controller. I found it a little hard adapting to play Rainbow Six 3 after having played Medal of Honor.
All in all, well done MS and please build some of that quality into your other products. Although the look lets it down compared to PS2, I still highly recommend it.

i have all 3 leading consoles at the time i am writing this and wow, xbox is one of the best consoles ever, up their with the atari 2600 and the good old nes. but anyway if you want grafix and hardcore gaming this is the console for you, but if your after a party console and want to have fun with your mates try the gamecube (the only good party game on the xbox is fusion frenzy), and then if you want a console with about a hundred million games and only about seven of them are good the ps2 is the one for you. with games like halo with its amazing grafix and story line and the sequal coming soon, morrowind with got game of the year with its amazing grafix and 10 miles of land to walk around, the xbox is the xbox is the one for you.even both of the games that i have menchend above are on the pc, but who wants to be sitting in front of a pc using a keyboard to move and look around when they could be sitting on the couch and with a comffy controller in their hand. xbox is the best gamecube second best and well ps2 LAST in my books!!!

- Xbox Will Never Be A Success
First of a must admit I am the owner of a PS2 and a powerful PC but this fact does not mean I have a biased view against the Xbox. I have played the console several times at a friend’s house and not noted anything special or anything to rival a good PC.
The Xbox has and never will be a popular console (compared to the PS2) firstly because of its launch and secondly because nearly all of its games are out for the PC - which are cheaper. I found the launch of the Xbox very amusing as it was given a price tag of £400 which was a complete joke, if Microsoft thought they could sell a console to people (especially kids) at that price then they are all mad! Funnily enough it didn't sell; it nearly flopped, now because of fallen sales it is only £120, that’s a 70% drop in price! PS2 was already dominating the market and Microsoft should have done the smart thing like Nintendo with their Game cube and undercut the Sony giant then they might have got a decent share of the market. However now it's too late, even as you read this the PS2 is outselling both the other consoles by miles.
I am not saying the Xbox is not a good console - it is and yes the graphics/sound are better than the PS2 but I believe the shear number of great games available on the PS2 make it a better console to buy. My recommendation is - if you want to play Halo etc then get a PC - more value for your money and get a PS2 to keep the kids happy!

The Microsoft Xbox is the most powerful home console in the world, as it contains only the best hardware made by the best manufactures.
The first time I played on an Xbox was at my local Electronics Boutique store (now changed to Game), I had a go Project Gotham Racing, and like pretty much everybody else, I was simply amazed by it, and then knew I had to get an Xbox. I got my Xbox on 14th March (UK release date) at 7:30am. I was one of the first people who got their Xbox's that day in my city. I bought Halo, Project Gotham and an extra controller. when I got home I quickly plugged it in and played Halo, and I was gob smacked. I couldn't believe how good it was.
NVIDIA
NVIDIA make the graphics card for Xbox which is based on the popular GeForce 3, but is essentially a GeForce 4. This Xbox graphics card has been named the x-chip. NVIDIA also make the sound card for Xbox, which supports Dolby digital. This is standard for all Xbox's, but for developers who wish to make a Xbox game, it can have 64 audio channels, which is the more than any other console. It also has 3D audio support, which basically means that even if you don't have surround sound, the Xbox will simulate surround sound even in stereo mode.
DVD Drive
The DVD drive in the xbox lets you play DVD's, with the assistance of the DVD remote. The playback quality of it is reasonably good, it's about the same as a mid-range DVD player, but importantly it is alot better than the PS2 playback.
Verdict
Design: I think it does look quite nice but i can see why other people might disagree with me.
Usability: The dashboard is very easy to use looks nice to.
Cost: As it's £130 now roughly, that is a really good price for it, much better than the starting price of £300!
Summary: Fact - its the most powerful home console in the world and for £130 that's not a lot to pay.

having read all the ps2 reveiws and all the xbox reveiws I came to the conclusion that the xbox was the better console due to the fact that it had the higher percantage of good reveiws (by a long long way!!!). after buying what can I say, i was knocked off my feet. the graphics are superb, the games are varied and in depth (most of them) and there are few bad ones. sure the dvd player costs 25 quid but then again mem cards 4 ps2's arnt cheap (hahahaha). anyways. My bro bought a ps2 a couple of mounths later. what a dissapointment. he claims its better but i always notice my high scores have been beaten every now and again. anyways. back to KOTOR. which I am ashamed to say is better than final fantasy 7 (my ex-fav game ever.).
