- Bigger than your video recorder, but more entertainment
While the line up of games may not be as cheap as the Playstation ones, or as fun and bright as the gamecubes, the Xbox certainly has enough power to deliver fast and realistic gameplay. Indeed - it was originally critisized for its apperance, but its what it does that matters, and its a fine machine.
The 8gb hard drive is plenty for your all game saves, and lots of music if you want to play tracks on certain games. the Controller S pads are of course better than the original release, so make sure you get the S version. Its relatively quiet, but may be a little distracting when watching DVD's - depends how close you are to it.
A good console, but I'm still playing on my PS One.

Comments about the black box being ugly looking are true, but I have the Crystal xbox which is stunning! The games are what make a machine though, and the xbox has some of the best games ever made. If you are buying the console because you want to wait for the 360 to come down in price or because you are waiting for it to build a bigger list of games first, then make sure you get these games! Ninja Gaiden Black (best game of the gen), Knights of the old Republic (RPG masterpiece), Psychonauts, Halo, Prince of Persia and Beyond Good and Evil. I know the 360 is backwards compat but it doesn't play psychonauts! And make sure you pick up the Official advanced scart lead. The leads provided with the machine are totally inferior in every way to the advanced scart so pick that up if you want the best picture and sound available.
Remember kids a Sony console is for those who are happy with mediocrity. A Nintendo console is for those under 10 years of age. Just get an Xbox.

I know it's a bit daft writing this review at the end of the current generation of consoles, but I am doing it anyway.
In my opinion the Nintendo gamecube would have been the best console of this generation of consoles, if it had more than 3 good games. Sadly, developers shyed away from the poor old cube. The PS2 is just a PS1 painted black with a DVD player attached, it has a few very good games though.
The X-Box was the most powerful, and has a decent selection of great games (Halo 2, Morrowind, Fable, GTA : San Andreas, KOTOR and Black are must-haves). I have about 20-25 different games for mine, all of which I consider to be excellent. If you want to get an older console instead of one of the expensive new ones, this hideous black box will give you a good selection of games, an in-built hard drive (so no memory cards to buy) and slightly more processing capability than its 2 rivals.

X BOX is the worst console of its generation, i own PS2 NGC and X BOX and this is the order i putr them in... (NGC would b top but only nintendo liscence games like zelda r 10/10!!!)x box should have its name changed to FPS box.... THE games are all the same and seriously lack originality.. plus the console has to be the ugliest next gen console and although technically the most superior there is no game that takes your br4eath away... BUY PS2 OR NGC...

There has never been a better time to buy an xbox, I was dubious at first upon release costing £299 and during the first year for every game rated 9/10 there were around 5 only getting rated 5 or 6/10. Now it's only £99 and there is a vast back catalogue of great games to be snapped up for as little as £10. I did have a Dreamcast but when Sega's finacial problems stopped production I had to look else where. Xbox is by far the best spec game console on the market, with a built in hard drive, no need to pay up for memory units. Capable of amazing graphics and games programmed for dolby 5.1 surround sound. It has 4 built in ports for multi-player games as well. You can also buy a remote to watch DVD's on it too and with Xbox live you can play a wide range of games against fellow gamers all over the world once you have a modem and subscription! I got mine in February and already have 10 games and know of around another 15 top titles I want to add to that! Thanks to Amazon whether buying new or 2nd hand you can have tons of fun without huge costs!! If you like games you should get this!
