Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - A solid game
Mario has been around a while, and has starred in some ace games, such as the brilliant Mario 64. Mario 64 set the standard for all platformers to be at if they were truly great. Mario Sunshine is a great game but does not have the qualities to match the awesome Mario 64. This is probably the first mario game with a 'gimmick'. FLUDD is a back pack which mario wears and can spray water. This adds some new puzzle elements to the game, but also takes some away. For instance FLUDD can be used to clear away mud, whereas in Mario 64 this was imposible. However, now Mario can use FLUDD to cross big gaps, whereas in Mario 64, Mario would have to find a switch to make platforms appear. It swings in roundabouts. But what I first noticed about the game was the graphics. These are the most beautiful graphics on the GC. Overall i like this game. It is not more of the same. Which is is good and bad points. I still recommend it highly

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Excellent game! 9/10
I'm really annoyed. I'm annoyed at the fact that Sunshine has had some terrible reviews, causing its average score to plummet to an average 4 stars! First of all, the people who have given this game a 1,2 or 3 star review are not providing a lot of detail and aren't really conveying their opinions to the best of their ability- this automatically should cause their reviews to be ignored, and maybe even deleted.
Sunshine's an excellent game, offering beautiful sceneries and worlds, filled with lots of colour and water! The graphics are amazing, especially as it was released very early in the gamecube's lifespan. The water may very well be the most realistic looking water ever in videogames, and i'm not using the word "ever" in vein at all. It's wonderful and amazingly fun to splash about in the deep oceons that Sunshine provides, and also rewarding as you can find hidden treasures and mini-games, resulting in Shine Sprites! By the way, Shine Sprites are the new Stars, and they look so cool, believe me!
The game mechanics are similar to 64, except that this time around you have a new compadre, Fludd! This doesn't ruin the game at all, but merely improves it. For example, if your simply running around with mario, you could spray a bit of water in front of him and slide down the path with sprays of water rushing from mario's sides. This is both, fun and visually stunning. Sunshine offers everything you could want from a platformer. Cool, unique bosses, big and bright levels and simple controls. This results in a game that is, without a doubt the best platformer of this generation. I've played lots of platformers, jak and daxter (all of them), ratchet and clank (all three) and even that platformer on the xbox based around a stupid racoon. Jak and Daxter and Ratchet and Clank are amazing games, flawless on the PS2, but compared to Sunshine they're nothing. I'm not a nintendo boy, but Sunshine is the best. I can understand people complaining about the fact that its worse than Mario 64, but be realistic, no game is going to have the same impact Mario 64 did, ever! Bottom line, this is the best this generation is going to offer when it comes to platformers. 9/10. It's not a 10 because the background characters are simply annoying, and because it's not mario 64;) Just give it a chance.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - awful
this is terrible and has put me off mario games for life (not that i liked them in the first place)

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - oh oh
probably the worst game of this generation. but all the magazines gave it top marks just because it was a mario game.when they look back in a few years time they will regret it. ignore this and play mario 64.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Not As Good As What People Were Thinking! Super Mario 64 Will Still Be The Master Of All!!
When Nintendo were developing this game, it looked completely different to what the game was going to be today. But a large error occurred with the game and so it was taken back to the drawing board!

Because of the fact that the Nintendo Gamecube was released in May 2002, Nintendo needed to get a Mario game out as quickly as possible before the end of the year, and so Super Mario Sunshine and Mario Party 4 were priorities. So as soon as Super Smash Bros Melee hit the records like a Fast Food Takeaway store, Nintendo concentrated on making Super Mario Sunshine! It then was released on October 4th 2002 and then gamers bought it like it was a limited time KFC bucket! Unfortunately, it didn't break gaming records like Super Mario 64 did back around 1997 to the early millennium!

Super Mario Sunshine is a fairly challenging game, and most probably requires a Guidebook in order for its completion! The story goes simple. After your long adventure in Super Mario 64, Mario and Princess Peach decide to take a vacation at Isle Delfino! An island based on a Dolphin, which is far away from the Mushroom Kingdom! So, without hassle, they hop on the Airplane and set out to Isle Delfino! When they arrive, the island is not what the Guidebook said... Clean, tidy, smooth, beautiful, relaxing, no no!! It turned out to be filthy, horrible, dark and weird! Mario knew something was fishy so this is where you take control of the legendary plumber!

Using your Super Mario 64 techniques you must guide Mario around the island and make it as beautiful as what it was before you arrived! But what's more fishy is that the citizens that live on the island are actually blaming you for the mess! Why? Well the reason being is that a Shadow Mario has been seen lurking around the island and is the known to be the one who's responsible for the mess, but many of the residents do not see this way, and are taking the blame on you! As you stroll along you will be supplied with the latest piece of machinery from Gadd Scientist Incorporation... The Flash Liquid Ultra Dousing Device (FLUDD for shorter terms), a water pump jetting gun that squirts water and allows Mario to hover in the air for a short period of time!

With Mario and Fludd combined as a team it is up to these two squirt jumping shooters to explore the island and clean up the mess as well as discovering whom this Shadow Mario's all about!! You will also have to save Princess Peach as well, since this Unknown Mario will kidnap her a couple of times, So be prepared!!

Despite being entertaining and one game, which is recommended for the Nintendo Gamecube, I thought to myself that Super Mario Sunshine wasn't as best as what Super Mario 64 was! I think the reason being, is that you don't get as much entertainment on Super Mario Sunshine as what you did on Super Mario 64, like entering unknown areas, wearing the Wing Cap, Vanish Cap and Metal Cap, getting blasted by a Cannon and spinning Bowser from the tail round and round!! I've had this game for Christmas in December 2002 and I got up to the Final World in February 2003, now on Super Mario 64 it took me from December 2000 till June 2001 to find and defeat Bowser with just 70 Power Stars, so you can tell that already, Super Mario 64 sounds enjoyable!!

My Personal Game Score: 7.5/10 - Great, Entertaining, Challenging!

My Wish: I think if Nintendo took a little more time to the game, and maybe added the Wing Cap, Vanish Cap and Metal Caps in Super Mario Sunshine, this game may have had the ability to outsmart Super Mario 64! But to this day, I would still say that Super Mario 64 is the master of all the Mario adventure games!!

Final Comment: Overall, this is a great game, but if you and your children want more entertainment and laughter, I recommend that you get a Nintendo 64 and Super Mario 64 alongside! With no offence, but Super Mario Sunshine is a game that didn't really make my eyes sparkle in the sunlight, whereas Super Mario 64 shined my eyes in the Moonlight!
