Video Games : Gekido

Wow what a suprise, normally the stuff Zoo releases is budget re-releases of old games and odd odscure Jap games that no one is interested in. I suppose Gekido could fall into the latter but this little game is different it's a real gem. It's a scrolling beat em up in the style of final fight, but where this game differs is that it has RPG elements and Manga styling. Indeed there is also street fighteresque special move combinations. The graphics are really cool with anime cut scenes and detailed sprites(even on a gameboy player). The sound is wonderful it's eerie and dramatic which is appropriate as it takes place in a deserted village which is full of zombies. There are a few problems with the game though, the anime cut scenes whilst good the first few veiwings cannot be skipped and this can be annoying when you just want to get into the action. Also the difficulty of the game is way up there and it might put a few people off, you really have to think strategically when you dispatch the bad guys. But if you perservere you will find an utterly rewarding, suprising, game and at the price an absolute bargain
