Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Absolutely Brilliant!
First of all buying from Amazon is really Cheap, Convenient and absolutely Fast-delivery for an online shopping's company. I recieved the MD the next following day upon ordering it the day before. The MD itself is absolutely brilliant, it comes with a total equipment of batteries, case etc. etc. (of course you only need to buy an MD disk). The Software which you'll be able to upload/download from your PC direct to your MD is very simple to use and Its very fast. The sounds is very good as well as the price of it, so if you're thinking to buy an MD get this one. The only thing that displease me is the remote controller, b'coz it doesn't have a backlight so at night it's difficult to see it, but apart from that, this another masterpiece from Sony needs to be seriously considered - on having it!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Almost all you could want
I bought the N707 thinking it had the most features for a sub-£200 price. It certainly does have a multitude of features - you'd be hard-pressed to find more features on other models.

Features: MP3-USB connectivity (which also allows you to record MD to CD, and allows you to rename and move tracks to your heart's content); jog-resistance; long play (2X or 4X); optical cable; remote control.

Pros: Features. Price. Reliable, well-built and supported brand. Extremely good sound quality.

Cons: It lacks the Sony Slimline battery which would not only make the unit a little smaller (although it's very light anyway), but also has a very long battery life. I also agree that the software is a bit buggy on a Windows 2000 system (tends to crash if you don't treat it with kid gloves). But it does record MP3s at 32X which is a major plus of the USB/PC connectivity. I also agree with other reviews saying that a backlight on the displays on both the remote and the unit itself would have been nice. Also lacks a radio, but for the price, you probably can't expect it.

Overall, a very future-proof unit with enough features to make your mates jealous. With sound-quality like it has, I can't see you'll ever need to upgrade.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Sony Net MD
The MZ-N707 is a compact, lightweight and multi-functional bit of kit and by all means, you do get what you pay for - in a good way! Little things such as the Rechargeable battery carrying case make this product look like one that Sony has really concentrated on. The charging cradle is an excellent edition to the MD world and the software is - on the whole, easy to handle. However, there is one complaint I have. The Long Play mode does not work as well as it probably should through the Net MD invention. On LP2 or LP4, there is quite a noticeable difference in sound where it becomes more grainy and less constant, especially in the voice area and guitar area of the sound output. The Longplay modes are good though for tracks that are very long and aren't of good quality in the first place. The Normal Stereo mode does take a while to transfer - just short of the time it would take to record straight off a cd, but the sound quality is perfect! The earphones give out a good allround sound, however I prefer to use my Groove earphones from my old Sony discman as these position further in your ear and give a deeper sound. The Software - OpenMG Jukebox - is practical for the job at hand, however, it is not one to annoy or be impatient with or it may stop working! It has never frozen on my PC, but then again, I have Windows XP which does a good job to stop that from happening. The carry case and remote are very helpful and stylish, and the battery life is phenomenal - I still haven't used the rechargeable one yet as after all of the music transferring and listening to music, the battery indicator is still on full for the single AA battery that should last for 56 hours! This is a great MD, packed with features - but be warned, the MD's recorded through this device cannot be played on any non-Net MD devices!

A good buy, and very Groovy!!

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Great machine - dreadful software and instructions!!!!!!!!!
Being completely new to the world of digital technowidgets, please treat my review with caution. I bought this machine because we bought a 4 year old car with a 4 year old minidisc player fitted. It struck us that we should copy over our CD collection to minidisc so we could have our music in the car.

The problem was that 4 year old machines only play at the basic speed and this Sony machine and software defaults to long play; which naturally doesn't work in an old machine.

Does the literature supplied with the machine tell you this? Well yes, but only after you flip between pages 28 and 45 seventeen times before deducing for yourself that actually it is the software that is the problem (rather than tell you to set it to normal speed, you actually have to set it to 'stereo', by the way).

This may all seem a life enhancing challenge to a technogeek, but I really can't understand why I have to thumb through two books of instructions and yet still be unable to find the answer to a very basic problem.

The box claims that you can copy CDs at 32x speed. Hmmmm? More like 8x speed in long play and 1.5x speed in 'stereo'.

However, where the software does score is the fact that you don't have to manually type in the song titles; all you do is hit 'download this information from the internet' and it searches for the info. Brilliant!

Come on Sony, invest some money in the software and proof reading.

Enjoy!

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Still Good But No Better Than Before.
As usual this is a great bit of sony kit but the only advantage of this model over previous ones is the netmd. That would b good but the included software is awful. If you only want 2 record a few tracks then i guess its adaquate but it isnt all its hyped up 2 b. The software isnt very good for those of us with large mp3 collections wanting 2 record many md's. I would say my pc is fast (dual 2ghz) but 2 import 4000mp3s with no conversion took hours & kept encountering errors. Importing the same tracks in real jukebox took little ova 4 mins! In my opinion i wish i hadnt got ths model n spent the same money on a better recordable md without netmd.
