Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Beautiful rubbish
Having been a fan of the first two Driver games and GTA I obviously jumped at the chance to play Driver3. Upon first inspection the game looks spectacular; beautiful city environments and cars and bikes that with their mere presence seem to beg to be taken for a ride.
However, the beauty is only skin deep. Vehicle controls are seriously erratic with terrible pop-ups and juddering stream feed. Once out of the vehicle things go from bad to worse. Merely walking around is a jerky affair which is just plain irritating and shooting is made extremely difficult by the same irratic movements that dog the vehicle controls. This is just the tip of the iceberg I'm affraid but suffice to say that playing this game becomes a chore.
I recommend you avoid this title.

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Not worth the wait... Unfortunately
I had been awaiting the day of release for this game for what sempt like a long, long time. Unfortunately it wasn't worth the wait.

I'll deal with the good points of the game before I move onto why it is such a HUGE let-down.

The FMV sequences are beautiful and add lots of character to the storyline. Having voice talent from major motion pictures gives them a cool and convincing angle backing up the game brilliantly. The soundtrack is good with songs from some very cool bands such as the Bellrays and the Stooges. The driving is fun and looks incredible with fully destructible cars which hold bullet holes and dents realistically giving the game a good sense of realism.

However, this realism is broken as soon as you exit the vehicle. The on-foot sections are the worst I have played since the Playstation 1. The graphics, animations and controls suffer as soon as you step foot from the car putting a sudden halt to all of that realism.

The AI is the worst I have EVER seen. Enemies just stand on the spot waiting for you to shoot them, sometimes wandering around in circles in a confused way not putting up any resistance. Even people that help you have awful AI. Not leaving flaming cars, standing letting enemies shoot them, the list goes on.

There are some other awful bugs too such as jumping on the front of a speedboat instantly killing you, getting trapped in the middle of a car after a crash, enemies shooting their own cars because you walked around the other side of them... need I say more?

In conclusion, this game has some levels which spark of brilliance with ideas that could kick the butt of the average GTA mission but these are few and far between some incredibly basic, tedious missions which reek of bugs and bad programming. I've tried to like this game but in the end what could have been an incredible game has obviously been rushed to make deadlines and the legendary Driver series has suffered terribly from lack of planning and testing.

I'm taking my copy back for a refund after three days of second chances. Sorry guys but believe me, this game has been hyped up beyond all reason... it's just no good : (

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - flawed, but worth your time
I read various reviews that gave this game a mixed reception and decided to take a chance on it. Straight away I felt this game was the most frustrating title I've ever played and provided very little instant fun. The driving controls felt too splashy and a minor prang meant you failed a mission. were it not for the drive around section I would have returned it straight away.
But playing around with the tighter driving of the cars in the Nice environment without the constraints of the missions you get used to the driving and begin to get great satisfaction driving well eluding cops etc... When you can drive well the story modes becomes a lot of fun and the over the top car handling a joy to swing around the tracks. It still gets frustrating every now and then, but with enough secrets to find in the take a drive section it's not a problem. As for the on foot sections, they are fully competent if you increase the look sensitivity, play in FPS mode and ignore the dumb AI.

It looks great, plays well and if you can put up with the awful experience of first hour of playing it's a really good game. Best bet is to wait a week or two and buy it from someone who didn't get past their initial reactions.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Alright game
this game looked to be brilliant from previews i'd seen, but once i got it i noticed that from the early screenshots the graphics where about the same and not much improved but they still look ok (they are about the best ps2 can do, which is'nt very good). The damage effects are great and the cars are good. There are quite a few bugs in the game like the game crashing, you can go through the map sometimes. the replay system is very good and you can upload your replays to xbox live and download them from xbox live and it takes a matter of seconds to download and upload them. even though it has a few bugs i would still recomend buying it.

the game seems rushed, as some one said the developers (atari) wanted to make alot of money and wanted to rush it, BUT they didnt it was the publishers (reflections) NOT the developer.

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - The biggest disapointment of the year.
How can a game that had so much potential for being an excellent piece of entertainment turn out to leave you feeling empty and unterly disapointed. I'm sure many of you will be thinking this after the first 20 mins of playing DRIV3R, It's as if GTA's free roaming game play never exsisted. In honest truth there is only about 3 things actually worng with this game but these three things make the rest of a fairly well made game uterly frustrating. The first major problem is the On-foot sections, they are awkard, fidily and no fun at all. If this had been sorted out then actually it may have turned out to be a marginally better game than True Crime. The second problem is the very linear game-play, it can only be played from start to finish via one route. The third problem, albeit a very shallow one is that although the Car crashes and soundtrack are both of a good standard, it tends to suffer from a few graphical glitches and has a terrible draw distance, even for X-Box you tend not to be able to see oncoming cars until they are allmost ontop of you which makes frantic cars chases on the wrong side of the road to lose a tail much less fun than it should be. Shame really because with a Stunning Intro which is worthy of an oscar alone, a stella cast and a pretty good driving system this still can't avoid being tagged with the name "the game that could have been" if only more time had been spent on the problems the game had rather than the rush to release it, it could have been a very tasty game indeed. It's not awful but the disapointment is gutting.
