Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Over-hyped
Nintendo have a reputation for re-inventing genres and brining innovation to their long-running franchises. Sadly, Mario Kart: Double Dash!! is evidence of neither. After the hype and the promise of an amazing title, what we have is little more than a glorified re-release of Mario Kart 64.

The tracks are far too similar, and with one or two exceptions, are mediocre in their execution. The two-characters per kart method is a gimmick that works well in multiplayer but offers no substantial justification of proclamations that it radically alters the experience. It doesn't. Multiplayer still provides many a laugh, but the single player experience is lacklustre, offering little incentive for repeat play, unlike F-Zero GX or Project Gotham Racing 2.

Ultimately this is a seven year old title given a new coat of paint and a typically feverant fan-boy drum roll, offering nothing truly exceptional.

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Mario Kart: Double Dash
Please, please, please don't get me wrong. As far as Mario Kart is concerned it is one of, if not the greatest games of all time. The SNES version that is.

The N64 version on the other hand got everything wrong.

Now we have Double Dash. MK:DD now taints one of my fondest video gaming memories with this awful latest installment of the karting series. It doesn't 'feel' like Mario Kart anymore. The handling physics are to be blunt, terrible. There's no sense of speed. There's little reward in good driving, as in the N64 version, as if you drive well you'll be knocked back - there's a sensation of too much luck in this game.

Avoid this one, dust off your SNES version and forget that Double Dash even exists.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Fun but TOO FEW TRACKS
The graphics are brilliant, gameplay is loads of fun and it will keep you entertained as you race against your friends.
HOWEVER there are only 12 tracks. So it becomes repetitive as the variety is just not there.
I would have liked to have seen more tracks per them e.g. 3 tracks in the dry dry desert stage instead of just one. I think it could have been quite easy to turn 12 tracks into 36 through the simple use of reversing direction, adding more per theme and mirroring tracks.
Other than that, I thoroughly enjoyed this game while it kept me interested.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Yes it isn’t F1, but that’s a good thing surely?
You own a Gamecube and haven’t bought this all ready? What’s wrong with you?
The graphics are perfect, even when in split screen mode. The game itself is really fast, even with the often ridiculous amount of shells and insane weapons flying around. There are even suitable details, like if you select a light charter to drive (like baby Mario) and a heavy character (eg Bowser) the karts handling changes when you swap them around.
On the downside the “battle mode” extra games are not interesting, and extra 4 tracks ( a “special cup” if you like) for when you complete the others, would have made this game perfect, which it pretty nearly is. Yes it isn’t F1, but that’s a good thing surely? Stop being so mean, just buy it!!!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - mario kart double dash
Goldeneye made the n64 for what it is, mario kart was great on the n64. Mario kart double dash will make the gamecube the most sought after game. People will buy the gamecube just for this game. I've bought many games for the cube, but not one of them has totally satisfied me. Too be honest, when I first bought the game, I was praying hoping it won't be a flop, how wrong was I!
