Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Strange setting but pretty good game..
Duelists of the Roses takes a bit of perseverance to get into but is very enjoyable once you do. If you've seen the newer tv shows where they use deckmasters then this game makes more sense. As it takes place in a 3d arena you can move your deckmaster and monsters around and to win you must get close enough to hit your opponents deckmaster. While this seems more like the Gba Dungeon Dice Monsters game than the traditional card game it does actually add something to the gameplay. The arena's terrains that you duel in can be made up of many different types, they can raise or lower a monsters power making them a big a part of the strategy as the monsters themselves. Your all powerful monster could be a weakling in another part of the arena due to the terrain. There is quite a challenge here with the option to choose a side to play for at the start and then after completing the game you can play it again for the opposing side. I completed both within 2 days with no loses but i consider myself an expert duellist so newcomers could find this game tough to start with. After completing both single player games though you can still try to collect all the cards, trade with and battle your friends.
The first PS2 Yugioh game is certainly different (war of the roses??) but take the time to understand it and you may find it a very enjoyable experience.

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - This game is a MAJOR dissapointment
Havin played Yu-Gi-Oh! for the ps1 and enjoying, and being a casual fan of the series, I was really looking forward to this game, as it promised superior graphical enhancements of the monsters on the ps1 version, and a new twist to the gameplay. It's very unfortunate that the gameplay is crap. There is no other word for it. While it's not incredibley complex, it's infruatingly trickly and unfairly hard to start off with. And oh-so-slow. If you managed to sit through the tutorial without falling asleep or just getting irritated then you have my respect. The battles are slow, and while the monsters look nice just standing (or flying) there, they don't exactly push the playstation to it's limits. As for the battle sequences- they're pretty appauling. I suppose this game is ok in that it gives the Yu-Gi-Oh! thing a whole new depth, but you will have to be extremely patient and willing to work at it. I don't think I'd recommend this to anyone but the most die-hard Yugi fans.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - yu gi oh fan
It is a great game I personally like the monsters coming alive and how you can move around.

Not as in the Game Boy one's were you put them on the field and they stay put its allot closer to the TV series in that way.

The game play itself is a bit harder than other games of Yu-Gi-Oh ,the field gives your monsters a advantage and disadvantage, it also reminds me of the dungeon dice monsters cos u move around.

In the latest series you see they have a special monster as the deck master the game also has this isn't it.

Your deck is a bit less powerful than your opponents but that gives the strategy ago as you have to think about every last move in the game,
and eventually build the deck up with cards that you win.

You don't get booster packs for winning you go on a slot machine and get 3 cards instead which gives the game it's lifespan, but I would have preferred booster packs in the end.

The AI is way smarter in the game as to other games as well.

The game is based around the War of the Roses hence the name Duellist Of The Roses, yu-gi being Henry Tudor which is all wrong as we all know that's all MADE UP, that the war of the roses was not fought with cards.

But that's the story line which is quite good once you get into it, at the beginning you get to choose which side you want to be on YuGi's or Kaiba's also the choice to have a practise duel which I recommend.

Now the graphics are pretty good if you ask me ok not the best in a ps2 game but this is only a card game really is it not.

You also get 3 cards but I wont tell you what they are as its a surprise.

Last but not least or well ok it is, the music it could have done with some different music.

Overall I recommend this game to fans of yu-gi-oh with points off.

lifespan-9.
graphics-8.
playability-8.
storyline-7.
music-5.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - ummmm???
Well I am a true Yu-gi-oh fan and I'm still undecided about this game. The duelling is actually quite good as you have to think about every move that takes place and it really makes your brain think. However, the graphics aren't good but are bearable. The only annoying part of the game that I have discovered is that the decks that you have the option of having, are completely understrengthed compared with your opponents, but thats what makes it a challenge. I would only recommend this game to Yu-gi-oh fans or gamers who want a challenge, you also get 3 free collectable duelling cards.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Yu-Gi-Oh: The duelists of the Roses
This game doesn't live up to the PS2 standard, but once I started playing I was hooked!!! It's easy to play if you've got a brain and requires you to study each match and think of a strategy. I loved it even thought drab. Good luck duelling
