Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - An unbiased review
Final Fantasy fans are a curious bunch. There can surely be no other group of gaming fans who feel so strongly about the 'tradition' of their favorite franchise. Within this fanbase there is a particularly extreme bunch who have concluded that the seventh instalment in the series is the holy grail of RPG gaming and seem to revel in dismissing with contempt any subsequent FF game.
This can cause a problem when it comes to sifting unbiased reviews from those from the above mentioned group. You will not need to look very far at all in the reviews on this site to find the sort of 'review' that I am referring to.
FFX-2 has come in for a particularly venomous pasting from the self appointed FF police. Many took great offence to the fact that it breaks FF 'tradition' by being a sequel and for many this alone was enough warrant writing the game off before they had even seen it (again, you won't need to look too far to find this kind of review). Add to this the fact that Square had the temerity to have a contemporary/fusion soundtrack rather than the usual classical style, an all female party and a light hearted feel rather than the darkly epic style usually associated with the franchise and you have the recipe for a lot of digruntled 'traditionalists'.
The unbiased reality is that FFX-2 is a very good, very playable and very enjoyable RPGer. I must confess to some initial disappointment though which stems from the inevitable comparison with the games' predecessor. Final Fantasy X was a magnificent game and whilst I hesitate to call it the best RPG ever (since that is merely a matter of taste) I am happy to nail my colours to the mast and say it is my personal all time favorite game (and I'm sadly old enough to remember playing 'tennis' with a dial controller back in the late 70's and thinking it was really cool! I've played pretty much every major game since then).
It takes a little while to adjust from the dark, bittersweet feel of FFX to FFX-2 but once you have and have accepted the latter game on its own merits and there is plenty to enjoy.
Yuna(the main protagonist)is a very endearing character. It is refreshing to have a female lead who is not cold and hard nosed like so many other game heroines. Consequently in this game, as with it's predecessor, it is easy to identify with her struggles which elevates the game above being just another hack and slash romp.
In FFX Rikku, who again accompanies Yuna in this installment, was the light relief to an incresingly ominous storyline. In this game the counterweight to Rikkus own particular brand of madness is the taciturn Paine. Personally I feel that Paine is the least succesful of the three main characters. Unlike Auron -the similarly disposed guardian from FFX - she is difficult to empathise with with which may be partly the result of the games focus on the two returning characters.
Combat is swift and effective and the 'costume-change' system of changing character class mid battle is inspired and amusing.
Looks wise the game is eyewateringly beautiful as you would expect. There are much fewer FMVs than the previous game which is a little disappointing but the cut scenes are improved especially regarding the facial movements of the main characters.
The many side quests and mini games are generally fun especially the ridiculously addictive number game 'Sphere break' which the world of Spira is now obsessed with in the Blitzball off-season. On the subject of Blitzball, a black mark for messing around with the game from it's previous incarnation in FFX. The game has been unnecessarily complicated and simply doesn't play as well as previously.
Square could have made the mistake of trying to recreate the dark, epic feel of FFX for this game(Yuna wakes up to find that it has all been a dream and Sin is alive and well and taking a shower in the bathroom - if you are too young to remember 'Dallas' ask your parents!). Instead they have created an enjoyable and fun sequel which deserves to judged on its own (many) merits. Don't be put off by the rantings of the FF police - enjoy!

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Waste of Time!
The makers of Final Fantasy have not been kind to PS2 gamers - 1st we get Final Fantasy X - massively over-rated and not a patch on its predecessors - then we get this game which is shocking!

FF7 & FF8 are undoubtedly the best RPG's of all time with fantastic storylines, great characters, amazing cut scenes, music, gameplay and incredibly addictive! After this we get FF9, the last installment on the PS One - which was OK but not a patch on the previous 2.

FFX2 is nothing more than a cheap spin off of FFX, using exactly the same graphics but creating an all female led cast of just 3 characters with no mission or purpose. All of them are just plain annoying, in particular Blaine who has no personality or story what so ever- is she really female? Its not a bad idea including character from previous title's but only if you pick the best ones - Yuna just doesn’t excite, moan, moan, sing, moan and moan and Rikku does nothing more than giggle, although she is probably the best out of the three.

There are No GFs/Aeons, Crap Music, Overly simple battle system which requires nothing more than tapping the x button in most battles, no story - whats the point in this game? , Highly repetitive - keep having to go back to the same places for the dullest missions you could ever imagine. Girl Power??? I could go on and on……………...

I did expect this game to be dire when I heard of its release but after 2 years of no new Final Fantasy games on the PS2 I decided to give this a try. Wish I hadnt bothered. All the things that were good about FF games have been removed leaving this as nothing more than a cheap money spinner production from SquareSoft!

Aimed at kids - this game should be deleted and burnt from video game history!

SquareSoft really need to buck up there ideas for FFX 12 which comes out later this year!

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Disappointed
First off, this is just my opinion, do not take it to heart and although this is rather harsh, I feel I must say it. I do not own this game, my friend does, however I am glad I dont. When I first heard of FFX-2, I was excited like every other FF fan. After five minutes I realised this is Charlies Angels masquarading as an RPG...The game is all about three girls in skimpy outfits, promoting girl power, while fighting the lamest foes ever concieved.

The graphics are still as good as its predecessor, but just uses the same backgrounds and monsters with a few exceptions.

The sound is awful, aside from a single track, all of the music is happly clappy pop rubbish, becoming annoying within five minutes of listening

Story is below average and unintersting. The characters have little depth and Yuna is surprisingly happy for someone who lost their first love..

However, there are two ways of looking at this game...for those who have not plsayed the game, you will either find it a fun romp or a piece of rubbish, most likely the former. If you have played the previous game, tyou can probably relate to my points of view.

To round everything off, I'll say this...if you like girls in skimpy outfits, dont care much for storyline or are easily impressed, I would recommend this game. If you are more selective about your RPGs, then avoid this..Also, if you have not played ANY of the Final Fantasies, I would also advise playing this.

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - RIP final fantasy
FFX was a great game , not quite up to any of the PSX titles but made up for it with sleek graphics and an improved combat and character developement system. I personally didn't like the voice acting or the predictable, linear storyline but hey can't complain. Then this came out and, assuming Square could do no wrong. ooooo dear. The first thing that made me think they had finally failed was the opening scene (Yuna singing some nasty happyhappy pop song). All the progress that was made In X has been ground into the dirt with X-2. I do quite like the whole Job system (its like the ancient FF's) but it just wasnt pulled off well.Rikku and Yuna will annoy you to the point where you jus wanna insert the controller into your head("HI 5!!!! OOOOO!!! YAYYYY!!!")and they are also wearing alot less cloths than before (presumably appealing to the more lonely people in the world). All the locations are the same as in FFX, as are the Monsters. In general this not a new FF game. This is FFX's illigitimate inferior brother. Do not buy it as I did. I bought it almost as soon as it came out , and ave played it for about 5 hours maximum. LEAVE ALONE. FFVI,VII(ooooo beautiful),VII,IX and X are worth your cash - this isnt worth jack.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - OMG what did they do to FF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
First thing this is a really bad game, as its not like original final fantasy games, the graphics are alright, but they ruined the whole FF stories, its suppose to be the follow up of FFX but its crap as there are no summoners, Aeons, ect..... NEVER buy this game, worst FF EVER!!!!!!!
