Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Warning
This is a great (if repetitive) game, but it will cost you an expensive monthly subscription, and it is very, very addictive. In the short and long term, once you have started wow you will struggle to stop.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Well worth trying
There's nothing permanent but change, a mantra you can quite easily apply to WoW.

WoW Life begins as either Alliance or Horde in the appropriate racial zones - Human, Gnome, Elf, Undead etc, within these heavily scripted encounters you will be introduced to the basics of your chosen class, Mage, Warlock Warrior etc and their general game mechanics.

As you quest, kill things and explore you will gain XP experience, essentially XP is based around levelling however you could grind appropriate level monsters over and over. Although there are some long and well scripted story arcs woven with WoW lore, for the most part the mechanics of questing break down into kill x of this, loot item y off body z.

The hook comes form the beautifully rendered landscapes and forging relationships with other players, quite literally so in the case of couples who have met and got married from meeting on WoW!

Anyhoo marriages aside, levels 0 - 60, level 70 if you purchase the expansion, can be played as a solo game should you wish, allowing you to take as long as you like to reach 60/70.

At 70 you reach what is called End-Game, end game is a completely different beast, from levelling and is constructed around group encounters - requiring between 5, 10, 25 and 40 players to work cooperatively often in Guilds (player run collectives), where events are planned to tackle the hardest encounters in the game - allowing players to obtain their class armour sets and incredibly powerful weapons, which in turn help to make these encounters easier.

The player base further diversifies at this point too Casual and Raiders and depending on your real life commitments and timescales you will find yourself gravitating to a guild - (should you wish) that best suits your personal circumstances.

Another aspect of WoW is Player v's Player, PvP can be played out in various forms, dedicated PvP servers, duelling and cross realm battlegrounds with a PvP system offering great gear, comparable to the toughest raid dungeons.

Whether you're into role playing, player killing, raiding or just playing on your own, WoW is a polished MMO. It my not have the most detailed graphics - however they are more than appropriate and in keeping with the look and feel of pervious Warcraft colour palettes.

Whilst you can get away with a graphics card from a few years back, it's worth investing in 1 to 2 gigs of RAM, to allow the game to run smoothly.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Warcraft as never seen before!
I am a true Guildwars freak: I bought all the games, have 5 lvl 20's, play pvp alot and now after 10months of it im looking to expnad onto another game and this game popped up amongst others as the leading contender. however when I asked around on GW people said that the move from GW to WoW would be drastic and many said I would actively hate the game. they were however mistaken. the thing is is that WoW is not complex, hard to use or uninteresting as many MMORPGs are. It strips the genre down to only precicely what is needed and then perfects the gameplay and leaves you with an absolutely stunning game. My main problems with classic RPG's and MMORPG's is that they are too based around adventuring and too little time is put into battle tactics and skills. GW fixed this and thats what I liked about it. WoW doesnt fix it but it makes the advebturing fun and interessting and makes combat fun. Why 4 you say because of graphics: they simply dont compete with GW apart from that it is an inspiring game. Made me want to make my own MMORPG!!!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Almost Endless Possibilities!
well I bought this game on friday 19 januar 07 from amazon and recieved it the next day at about 830 in the morning. After trying to install it on the pc the pc broke and so I decide to install it on the mac. Anyway after about 1 and a half hours the game had finally finished install and i went on it and created an account, I then logged in and had to install a further 600 mega bites on top of the 4 giga bites i had just installed!! that took about an hour. After that I logged on and created a character from a huge choice of skins and classes and races etc. This game was really easy to get used to and after about one hour i was level 3 and fighting level 6 monsters and winning, you can create lots of different characters all on the same account so if you dont like the one you started off with then you can make another very easily. I ve played it for 2 days and have found not one little bit of lagg and I hav created 4 characters and have got passed level 4 on all of them really easily. This game is worth the £9 a mouth but only if you play it regually and have alot of patience to wait for leveling up and doing long quests. The major downer is the installing time and size! about 4.8 giga bites were needed and it took about 4 hours to complete it all. If you are reading this and you thing you want this game then the longer you wait the longer it will take to install as the world is constaltly being updated about everyday.

Brilliant game overall. I love it!!

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Good to start with, but gets boring!!
I bought this game abot 18 months ago, and could not keep off it. So much so, the wife was infuriated with me for 6 months. So there is a good side to everything....

I started about 8 characters, all but one on the Alliance side, and varied them all. I really got on well with my Warlock, but after reaching level 45 (ish) I found it almost impossible to advance. All the quests were 'instances' (group quests what need to be completed without anyone dying) and as I was not in a huge guild, whenever I put out a call for help, no one responded. Therefore I could not gain levels. I then started again with my mage, and my warrior, and I found both boring as I was doing quests that I had completed months ago with my Warlock.

After paying almost £40 on buying the game (then, now it is more like £20) I was a bit against paying the £9 per month on subscription, but I persevered. Now I wish I hadn't.

I left the game for a few months, then started again, and gave up after one month. Nothing to complete quest-wise (same problem as above) meant no advancement. So Sod That!

I am now a fully paid up member of "Guild Wars" and loving it. The game is smaller, but as all activity outside the cities are the same as 'instances' in WoW (just computer chars, no RL chars) there is no lag, and no one to steal the treasure whilst you kill all the evil people. And at only £15 on here, and no monthly payment I feel it is a much better option, unless you really want to waste money on WoW.
