Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Caution - Gaming experience may change during online play
This is a very polished and logically well-thought-out game. It looks beautiful too, and some of the music is good. It should appeal to fans of any online game, - it has role-playing quests, player vs player combat, capture the flag, exploration, trading, - there are many aspects. (It's online only, there is no offline element, and there are subscription fees). It's now had time to settle down and is much improved from when launched.

Although I've given it 5 stars for the above reasons, be warned, especially if you are a mature gamer.

Firstly, the game encourages player co-operation and teamwork. There is only so much you can see and do solo. All very well, as one might expect, but players with zero patience, manners and limited communication skills make up a significant proportion of the games population. Be ready for this, and realise that one players idea of game ettiquette might not be anothers.

Secondly, you have to put a lot of time into it to achieve anything meaningful. At times it can be frustrating. It can feel like a shopping simulator, like wandering around a supermarket not knowing where to find something, especially if you try to do everything on your own.

So only consider this if you are tolerant of others online, have patience and time to spend on it, and enjoy co-operation. But it can be a very rewarding and enjoyable escape.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Two games in the guise of 1
I have been playing this game for around 1 year now, like many i too was new to online RPG's...yes it is addictive, yes it is appealing to the casual gamer. But, as my post is titled, there are in essense 2 games: pre level 60 and at level 60.

The former is very appealing to casual gamers, the lattter however is where the game shines. This game is set in the same story timeline from Warcraft 3, and its expansion. At level 60, you are able, if you choose to, descend into this. Places like Molten Core, Blackwing Lair and AQ...they require raids of 40 people, and as much as 10-12 hours in one sitting (if you are new) and as much as 6 days in the same zone. These raid dungeons are where each player must master their class, as well as work as part of a team that no quest, run pre level 60 can compare to. The reward? immersing yourself in the storyline, taking on the gods/lieutenans of the lore, as well as the best loot in the game and more so the challanges you must face.

If you want to have a laugh, wow is for you. If you want to go beyond that, push your player to the limit and really take on some hard challanges..wow again is for you. In my experience with this game, it only starts at level 60, everything before that is a tutorial.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - The dawn of a new age in gaming
It's impossible to know where to start with World of Warcraft. It is simply the most detailed, imaginitive, compulsive and addictive game ever created. An online only game, you must subscribe and pay a modest monthy fee to the manufacturer but this is indeed a small price when you consider what you get for your money.

An entire online World is waiting full of Humans, Dwarves, Gnomes and Orc's and they inhabit breathtakingly beautiful Kingdoms ranging from Snow and Ice through to partched desert. As the game is online only, you will meet and work with countless other players and forge friendships and grudges.

As far as the programming and constructing of the game is concerned, the feat displayed here is simply mind boggling and the level of detail is way beyond anything I have ever seen before. The game play is also extremely sophisticated and as you work up through the levels you can earn money, trade, learn professions and all manner of other ingenious things. This is the first time I have ever been aware that the latest generation of online games are genuinely producing a sort of alternative reality - locations full of hills and valleys, buildings, trees, lakes and rivers that become so familiar that they seem real.

On a cautionary note, I have recently read stories of players becoming dangerously addicted to this game and it's easy to see why. Within the game, a player can attain status and wealth - something they may not have in the real world. When you consider that in 20 short years we have gone from playing Pacman to games so sophisticated that an alternative reality is beginning to emerge is hard not to feel slightly apprehensive about the next 20 years. This aside, World of Warcraft is spectacularly good and is by some way the best game I have ever played.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Great...
Well having been a paper and pen RPG'er then moving onto MMORPG's I find Warcraft great, not excellent, mind blowing or anything massively original.

I have been playing Warcraft now for about 5 months and it is generally split into 4 areas: Questing/Xping, Tradeskilling, PVP and Raiding.

The first 3 I have done and the tradeskilling is better than any other I have used basically because it is simple.

The questing/xping thing is ok, but always going to be a grind. Finding a group can be tough dependent on your class and the social aspects of the game are really only 6/10 for me. It is hard to beat the social aspects of EQ1 for me, but I found that interface much better for chat.

Anyways, PVP is a great thing about this game. Nothing better than beating the juice out of an enemy faction. For me, this is the games best thing. I only hope at the expansion they bring out different elements and battlegrounds.

So all in all, worth a purchase - expect a grind, expect more of the same, nothing original - but that aside a very good game.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - World Of Warcraft,
As everyone knows WoW has been around for quite some time now and one thing is for sure, Blizzard have kept the game fresh and full of good content especially towards the higher end of the level range.

When you begin in WoW you first are presented with a choice of races each with their own set of classes to chose from and also races are split into two distincly different factions known as Alliance and Horde. It is worth noting that it is a good idea to play both factions in this game as they are both very different and to only play one side will mean you are missing half of the game.

Once you have chosen your race and class you are thrown into the starting town of your chosen race and you can begin to work through the games quest system or simply kill monsters to gain XP also even joining up with friends or making new friends to party with and work together is always the best choice and the most enjoyable, does anyone really want to play alone in a huge populated world like this? I think not.

As mentioned earlier the game has a very well made and in depth quest system where you take quests from set NPC's in the world and do tasks for them be it run a package to someone or go find something for them or even go into a dungeon and track down a certain monster to kill. The quest system in WoW is one of its most appealing features and constantly gives you a direction to go while developing your character however this system also has quite a drastic downside, the first time through is good fun, when you begin another character (and you most likely will have many to experience other classes in the game) you will end up redoing the same quests again and again, this is not a problem for some but for others it can be a boring affair and can also put you off beginning another class because you have seen the quests before.

Thankfully the high end content is vast and varied enough to keep you interested for quite a while including the PvP system and PvP Battlegrounds which are always fun for a while but can get old.

This is a game for laid back players really and not one for a hardcore MMORPG player, the game is very easy going and to be honest very quck paced. It doesn't take long to level your characters and you can work from level 0 to 60 within a week without a problem which for a player used to something like EverQuest or Lineage 2 will seem shallow to be fair, for a first time MMORPG player it is a great introduction to the genre and you will play it for many months even years but always remember there are other more in depth games available that may perk your interest more.
