Video Games : Blood Omen Legacy of Kain

- THE START OF A LEGACY
One night in the spring of 1997, I brought this game home through reading about it in a magazine.
I was enthralled by its dark, Gothic scenery and powerful, chilling musical score. That was just my initial reaction to the game. Then, when I played it, I could not stop because of its intriguing story line. It is about a petty nobleman, Kain, who goes into a small town and tries to lodge there for the night. But the innkeeper refuses him and sends him back into the cold, bitter night. Outside the inn, he is killed by unknown assailants and is sent to the hellish underworld. Chained and tortured, Kain is confronted by the necromancer Mortanius. He offers to resurrect Kain so that he can take vengeance upon his assassins. Kain accepts this, not realizing that by doing this that he will become a vampire. And so Kain returns to the world of Nosgoth, his home, and wreaks blind vengeance upon all. That's all I'm going to tell you about. If you want to know more, PLAY THE GAME.
The brilliant diction and syntax of the script is spectacular, and in my case educational, for it inspired me to build my vocabulary quite a bit (my brother's too). An excellent voice talent cast brings the characters of this masterpiece to life. Simon Templeman is excellent as the blood-thirsty, hate-driven Kain. Voice actor Tony Jay with his deep, throaty voice does well to give life to the shady necromancer Mortanius. Great performances from Neil Ross, Richard Doyle, and Anna Gunn, who did the bulk of the voices in this game (Anna Gunn did all the female voices). And Paul Lukather is incredible as the veteran vampire Vorador. To anyone who likes fantasy games, or any kind of action/adventure game, this one is worth at least a try.

i love this game but i dont own it anymore! its wunderbar! if youre planning on selling one on market place put it up for 9.99 and ill buy it. its far too expensive for a second hand game!

I am like many Legacy of Kain fans in that I wasn't a fan from the start, I got a taste of what a glorious world Nosgoth was when I played Defiance (yes I started at the end) and loved it. I found I loved it so much in fact, that I felt compelled to back track and find out where it all began. Blood Omen is the hard to get hold of first in the LoK series and it really is a gem of a game. Apparently it's a chore to get the PC version to work on a modern computer so the PSone version is probably your safest bet.
Blood Omen sees the start of the Legacy of Kain, making it a must-have for fans who might wish to play Kains first steps into vampire hood. It is much more of 2D dungeon-crawler then the 3D platform games the others became, and it looks much more like something you would have found on the Sega Mega Drive then the PSone. This news put me off at first, but when I actually received the game and started to play I found the storyline to be as involving as the other games, with the same superb voice acting as the others and the game play is straight forward and fun, and although the graphics are, of course, dated, Kain has never looked so small and cute!
There's also the added bonus of being able to change into a wolf which is certainly something I was surprised, but delighted to find out.
All in all, it's retro fun and a must if you feel your Legacy of Kain knowledge isn't quite up to scratch.

this is how it started, the birth of kain as a vampire before raziel. this is the events that changed a worlds history and created one of the best game series's ever so a must own for fans

This is definatly one of the best games in the legacy of kain series. If any one has played these games before, you'll know just about everything your going to get. A great combat game, a great puzzle game and a fantastic story line which makes me give this game a 100% 5 out of 5.
