- Should not be on the market. Not fit for purpose!
If you seek effortless set-up and a device that works according to the manual, look elsewhere! Having spent the best part of a day trying to get this thing working, I have put it back in the box and will only retrieve it when I have been very bad and wish to punish myself! I don't understand how a product this shoddy and non-functional has survived on the market. The software doesn't work and, unless one wishes to spend ones life printing out Windows test pages (it does those perfectly but little else!)it has no place near your printer. I had hoped to be able to share my ("compatible" so Netgear assured me) device with my son but it is going to be kinder on us both for me to buy a second printer after all... It serves as a huge disincentive to ever go near a Netgear product again! I think 1/5 is too generous a score for this trash. I don't like it, if you haven't guessed already...

...hours of time wasting trying to get this thing to work...have finally given up...actually printed once - and once only...numerous attempts at uninstalling and reinstalling...assigning IP addresses manually...trawling Netgear site...other forums...now won't even complete the install process... retire defeated...Netgear, you have won...geek=off...life=on...continue quest elsewhere...

- A Curates Egg..
I'm writing this retrospectively. Had the unit for over a year. Setup was OK though I'm an 'IT Professional' so perhaps more patient about these things. The unit is a curates egg in that when it's working it just works but on the other hand it does have a nasty habit of randomly hanging up and refusing to talk to anything. This needs a power cycle to fix. Not good. From a techy perspective the web interface is clumsy and most of the functions don't give any *real* status info. It doesn't support bi-directional comms to my Epson R245, which gives ink status etc. but that's common in these sort of devices so a minor niggle. In the current marketplace it's expensive for what it is. I wouldn't buy another.

An excellent piece of kit! Extremely easy to set up, and although the install manual says it will take 30 mins to set up it took less than 5 and has been working perfectly since!
Its small and not a gigantic brick like some print servers are! It can happily just sit on top of my canan s450 and you'd miss it if you weren't looking for it!
And as well as that, it does away with having to share the printer from a pc! And with a wireless network... its excellent!

It only took a couple of days to set the server up so that I could use it to print from my laptop. The next day, it would not work. I had no more time to waste on it: I printed from the laptop via the desktop (which had to be turned on). Printing from the desktop was OK. Two weeks later, this stopped too - when I needed to print quickly. I hurriedly reinstated the printer as dedicated to the desktop. I have wasted many hours of my time; the cost; and the cost of an additional ethernet cable (which, hilariously, does not come with the server). My conclusion is that the technology is insufficiently mature/stable. It may well be possible to get it to work, but my long history of intermittent faults suggests that it will not meet my objective of saving time. A non-functional product therefore. I do not intend to send good time after bad by trying to return the rubbish to Netgear for a refund. I wish I had been warned.
