Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Need i say more?
What can be said about this epic of a movie, rivaled only by Terminator and Terminator 2. This movie combines a plot done once and again and not only turns your expectations from a dull and predicatable ending to one of the best special effects movies ever created...the only thing that i can say about this is 'Why do america save the world?? what about England?'

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - A rollercoaster ride of enourmous proportions...
Simply the biggest movie of 1996, notably for it's fabulous special effects and of course the leading role taken by Will Smith. The plot is simple enough. An army of parasidic aliens arrive at Earth and begin annihalating all human life. Of course, Earth has no defence...except for Jeff Goldblum and Will Smith, who between them steer this film to its inevitable conclusion. A spectacular, fast moving epic in which America saves the world once again. A must see for anyone.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Ten tonne turkey
I suppose by going to see this film in the cinema I have inadvertantly added to the viewing figures for this stupendously overrated turkey of a film. US Presidents flying in jet aircraft? Combine harvesters? Octopus-like aliens? & of course, the rest of the world sitting nervously by while Bill Pullman and the Pentagon come to the rescue? Not to mention the opening action sequence with the labrador (How DID it survive that fireball!??! Please.... I chipped my tooth during this film on a beer bottle, and that wasn't as painful as this film.....

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Easier done than said
The funny thing about the movie is how a drunk crop duster manages to master an F-18 in under 10 minutes, if whisky mixed with the crop duster chemical has that effect maybe the American government better give a years supply to there own rookie pilots, sure cheaper than training them and spending millions of $

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - The aliens are coming !
Ever since Orson Well's "War of the worlds" back in the early thirties caused such national hysteria in America, there has always been great interest in finding out more about our little green galactic friends. This felling has also been reflected in the success of such films and television programmes such as the X-files, Star Trek and Star Wars, therefore it is not suprising to see that Independence Day (ID4) is the second highest grossing box office film of all time. The phenomenal success of ID4 can rightly be compared to Wells famous radio transmission, since it sparked of many debates and discussions on the topic of "are we alone". The film itself can be criticised for being simple, flag waving and very cheesy, but then this film was not trying to win any Oscars it is meant to be a spectacle (beer & popcorn movie) and on these condotions it does work. The special effects (CGI) bring about landmark changes in filmmaking, and the areial fight scenes would even make George Lucas envious, I still remember the first time I saw the white house explosion and it almost left me stunned for a few minutes. The film also has a good main cast with Jeff Goldblum playing the neurotic nerdy hero, and a pre-megastar Will Smith showing great raw energy. Also an unlikely Bill Pullman playing the president of the USA manages to fit in well with in this film. In a nutshell the aliens arrive, the aliens start to fight & then we fight back, this film started a trend in high effects, big budget, B-movies, take for example The Mummy & Men In Black.
