Video Games : Second Sight (GameCube)

- Excellent game from the makers of Timesplitters
Well this game snuck up on me big time, I didn't even know Free Radical were working on another non-timesplitters game. So it came as a pleasant surprise when I stumbled across it a few weeks ago and put my order in straight away.
So what we get for our money? Well what we have here is a third person view adventure game which a damn good plot and excellent graphics.
Although, first impressions weren't good it has to be said. Sure it looked impressive and you could tell this was done by the people behind timesplitters; same style but greatly improved detail and quality to the models and levels. But it's the fact the main character talks so god damn much during the first level, all you want is for him to shut up and let you work out what to do next. I suppose he has woken up from some heavy treatment and he's not sure where he is... we'd all ramble to ourselves no doubt. Thankfully this calms down during the later levels and when he speaks it adds to the game not detracts.
The only problem with this game is it's length. It took me 8 1/2 hours to complete, although they were a quality 8 1/2 hours. You don't really unlock anything when you finish but you can go back to any level and replay to try and change the way you completed it... more stealthy or guns blazing. You have different stats for each level such as stealth and morality. If you go guns blazing morality hits 0%, but if you sneak about and don't kill anyone 100%. You get the idea. It's a nice touch but there is only a certain amount of time you want to play the same levels over and over. There are two different difficulty levels, but all it means is you take more damage when you get hit.
There are a few secrets to find but nothing too hidden away, which are bonus mini-games. Found three so far, x-space is probably my fav which you find in the mad house.
So overall, we have a very good game indeed. No hidden extras except for the mini-games and not a lot of replay value. But while you're playing it's a great gaming experience. Good graphics, easy controls and excellent voice acting.
Good plot twist at the end too!

An utter delight! Imagine what would happen if Codemasters (creators of the masterful "TimeSplitters 2") managed to get their hands on the Metal Gear Solid 2 engine... This is it! Second Sight retains the superbly intuitive combat engine from TimeSplitters, as well as adding a superbly realised Stealth aspect into the mix. We are even treated to a fairly in-depth plot line this time around (which is something of a rarity from codemasters)... The whole thing is even wrapped up a wonderfully stylised environment that whizzes by at a lovely 60 frames-per-second that makes the game a true joy to play, especially when you start hurling the enemy guards around the screen with your newly found telekinetic powers. There is a definate sick pleasure to be had in clubbing an enemy against a brick wall, whilst the game's ragdoll physics engine mimics every brocken bone and dislocated joint... All in all, this is a solid package, bar the inclusion of a multiplayer mode (which was certainly feasible)... Good Work...
