Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - good, but a cheap spin off to the previous game
My fave PS1 game is Tenchu- there's nothing like getting tooled up in feaudal Japan and going out there and slicing up some bad guys! Tenchu 2: Birth Of The Stealth Assasins was a let down from the previous, in that it was just really really cra p.

This game is spin off of the previous PS2 game, Tenchu: Wrath Of Heaven. You play between the stories of Ayame and new ninja character, Rin Of The Beniya. If you enjoyed all the other Tenchu games, then you'll like this one- the only new feature though is that there are names for different types of stealth kills, which is pretty cool, but that's about it in in terms of difference from Wrath Of Heaven. The bad points about this game is that too many of the same enemies have been imported from Wrath Of Heaven to save money, and the characters have American accents; the voice acting is really appauling, and too many of locations resemble the ones from the previous game.

Buy it if you like Tenchu, but if you have never played Tenchu before, I recomend Tenchu: Stealth Assasins on Playstation, and then Tenchu: Wrath Of Heaven on the Playstation 2.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Difficult to say really...
Well this game is pretty fun in a way, but lacks qualities in other ways.

Good Points - Its nice to see Ayame still bouncing around after all the other games and some of the new characters are pretty cool. You have outfit choices, pretty much total freedom of movement and a variety of combat, stealth kill moves and items to lay waste to your foes. The music is nice too, either energising or soothing and happy.

Bad Points - Although the graphics focus on detail they arent the best in the world and there are often glitches. When it is on Hard mode then believe me it is hard, in fact the last boss is almost impossible! And Rin should have been a boy and should certainly have a less irritating voice instead of that whine going on >>;;. The storyline has potential but lacks it big time..

overall i guess it is a fun game but just be sure you know what to xpect before you go out and buy.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - NINJAAAA!!!!
The Tenchu series has been a real breath of fresh air. Theres not too many games out there where you can sit and wait and wait and wait just that little bit longer until your unsuspecting victim is in just the right place for you to pounce, then BANG thier gone.

There are far too many games on the market now that dont really need you to think too much and you just basically need to run from room to room blasting away with your photon rocket death ray and crossing your fingers you get to the end without dying.

Thats why the Tenchu series has been so successful, its completely different. Its not just kill kill kill you actually have to think about what your doing, can anyone see me? can i get to another hiding place quickly? what weapons can i use? are there any traps? there are lots of things to consider but number 1 is dont get caught in a pitched battle with more than 1 enemy, if they are strong and skillful 9 times out of 10 you will lose, unless you can get away and hide.
Every level you complete will give you a grade based on, kills, if and how many times you are spotted, stealth kills and normal kills. A low score will give you a grade of THUG, there are several other grades all the way up to the highest grade which is GRANDMASTER. Succesfully complete a mission with the GRANDMASTER grade (only GRANDMASTER will unlock something) and you will obtain bonus weapon unlocks that can be very helpful for tricky missions .

Take the time to try Tenchu out, all of the series games are very good so dont worry about which one to try. The graphics obviously get better the later the game you try.

Very highly recomended.

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - A failure
I am a massive fan of the tenchu series, I mean, being a ninja assassin is a very cool idea for a game. I loved all of the previous installments, and played them to death. So imagine my excitement when i see this in the bargain bin!
However, i got this game home, and within two minutes of turning it on i hated it. The cutscenes are bland, with the most boring narrater i have ever heard. The levels are very poorly laid out making gameplay awkward and highly frustrating. Essentially, this game has lost the wow factor all the others had.
THIS GAME IS NO FUN!!
if you are a first time Tenchu buyer, purchase one of the previous installments and forget this existed. This is worse than Spartan Total Warrior!

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - And now for something slightly different...
'Wrath of Heaven' was as perfect as a Tenchu could get. Excellent graphics, big, detailed levels with a cinematic plot, plenty of movies, moves, weapons and items and more. However, the third stuck to what was most adored about the original to keep the fans happy. With 'Fatale Shadows', From Software shows efforts of trying to expand on their canvas.

The first thing I noticed was the change in graphics. Both character modals and level layouts appear to be in places more bland or rushed than the predecessor.
What is good is that the characters are faster both in terms of running, jumping and fighting. On the whole, it feels far more fluid.
Many levels are based in woods, hill tops and other locations far away from civilization, the game has so many trees, bushes and hills that on certain levels a player will become completely confused as to where they are going and what is happening around them. Sometimes I was running directly into death pits, off of cliffs or into enemies without even noticing until it was too late. This became frustrating, and it was only after playing levels the whole way through a few times and memorizing the majority of a level that this would stop happening. However, some of the graphics on these levels make them some of the most atmospheric and beautiful to look at to date.

There has been a change to the layout too. Each level has always had 3 different layouts of enemies and items. But in ‘Shadows’ there is something more. Each location has 3 hardness levels, easy, medium and hard, (which tweaks that there are more or less enemies with harder fighting skills).
What this means is that there are potentially 9 different gaming modes for each level. Further more, because there are 2 characters to play as, for all those who are pure-crazy perfectionists like myself about completing the game with Grand master on each level is going to have to do so on 18 different layouts per-level! This is just plain ridiculous.

A few innovative extras on some of the levels have been added to make the game a little more diverse. Some levels require you not to be spotted once or game over, some requiring you to explore levels for specific objects before pursuing forward and so on. Some of this was attempted on Tenchu 2, however they are far better executed this time round.

There are two characters to play as on this instalment, Ayumi who has been the second main character of every instalment so far, and a new character named Rin. Rikimaru remains absent because of events in other games. But the break away from the stories of the last games makes this more approachable to newcomers.
Rin is the star of 'Shadows'. A younger ninja to Ayumi and decidedly less experienced, the story revolves around a revenge plot against a ninja group known as the 'Kuroya', who destroyed the rest of her 'Beniya' clan. Whilst there are no points for originality, I will say this. The enemies in 'Shadows' are far more interesting than any of the other games. My most favourite is 'Ranzou', a stone-cold killer with a very cool attitude and a vampire like face. In fact I would go far as to say the story in 'Shadows' is the best in the series so far.

A few other extras have been added. After stealth killing enemies, scrolls can be picked up. With enough of these more moves (some new, some old but all very enjoyable and interesting including a temporary invisible move!) and extras can be activated (such as new costumes etc).

‘Fatale Shadows’ doesn’t look or feel as polished as ‘Wrath of Heaven’, however, if you’re not expecting more than another part in the series, ‘Fatale Shadows’ is still an enjoyable experience. Many of the levels are just as large and colourful as ever and the gameplay, after some adjusting to speed, is even more enjoyable.
