We had a great laugh watching our 5 year old son (who isn't a Thomas fan) getting so excited watching the train zoom around the track quickly. Most of the time the smoke came out, I'm not sure why it came out only sometimes but when you stop it at the station a huge puff of smoke comes out and whistles at the same time much to our delight. It only holds a small amount of water so needs topped up a few times. This is a great toy to get out on a cold day to keep them busy unless you have it built up all the time, it doesn't take long to build, about 5-10 minutes. When they started getting bored after about half an hour they made the train chase some dolls round the track, which they got quite excited about. You can also change the direction of the train with a switch during play and the train can be played with without the track. Good fun.

My son is four years old and is a big Thomas fan. For his birthday we decided to get him a train set and the Tomy system was recommended to us by a friend. The Steam Set was the newest set available so that is the one we got.
Well, this set is a just fantastic. The track is really easy to put together and the accessories like the tunnel and the station look great. But the real magic comes once you've put Thomas on the track and filled his funnel with water. We were all amazed to see real steam come puffing out of Thomas' funnel as he went around the track. I've never seen anything like it. I know this is called the 'Steam Set' but I was not expecting to get real steam out the train!
The steam is totally safe for the young ones as it is just water vapour and not at all hot. The funnel lights up red and that makes it look hot, which just adds to the magic.
Our boy absolutely loves this toy and I can see him playing with it for many years to come. I came on the Amazon site to buy a bit more track but thought I would let people know how much fun this train set really is!

Words really cannot express my pleasure with this toy we bought last week. My little boy is four and loves Thomas the Tank Engine and we decided to buy him a train set for his birthday. The Tomy system was recommended by a friend and the Steam Set was the newest set available.
Once opened, the set was easy to set up, with the track slipping together really easily. There is a tunnel and a station to place around the track and these look great too. But the real fun is once Thomas is on the track with a little bit of water in his funnel. You turn him on and real steam actually comes out of his funnel as he moves around the track. I know it is called the Steam Set but I didn't actually think steam would come out of the train!!

My boy hasn't stopped playing with this toy and I'm not sure he ever will!
