Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great games machine
First thing I have got to say is this on the HD-DVD and BLU-Ray issue. Microsoft very wisely avoided lumping a next gen DVD player with the console unlike Sony. Sony want gamers to pay extra for the new drive so they can win the next gen DVD format war. You will only need to add a HD-DVD drive if you want HD-DVD playback, you will never need it to play any xbox 360 games. This keeps the cost down and makes it unbeatable value.
XBOX live is fantastic! Not only can you play your buddies online but in market-place you can download game demos straight to your hard drive, watch the latest High Def film trailers and download extra content for your games. In XBOX live arcade you can for a small fee download puzzle and old school arcade games like guantlet, joust, smash tv and I believe Streetfighter 2 will be availble soon. If you got an internet connection you have got to get this. XBOX live has been running for quite a few years now and keeps on getting better and better. There is no way any other console can offer anywhere near as good online experience as this. Added to these great features is the possibility that one day you will be able to take on PC gamers online(because PC games run on windows) and this has got to be the best next gen console.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Not as fantastic as microsoft would have you believe
Another bold title. Don't get me wrong, i love the console and have pretty much lived on it since i obtained mine about a week after the launch date. Since i do not have this version, i own the premium, you may think that you should discard this review, however i think i make some valid points. The main point is the fact that whatever you are doing, xbox live or no, you need to save your games. This is not an available option for the core system alone out of the box. You need to spend an additional £23 plus postage if you purchase off Amazon. This brings the core to a saving of about £48 with a defecit of just under 20GB of storage space, a wireless controller (which, may I add are fantastic), an xbox live headset (good, but unnecessary especially if xbox live is not for you) and a composite HD/AV cable. Not to mention the fact that you are not able to even access free demo and trailer downloads through Microsoft's free xbox live silver and you are lacking the backwards compatibility feature that lets you play xbox games on your 360. All this coupled together brings the total price way above the cost of the premium edition, which is perhaps why the core version was not in as high demand as the premium. However, if you do not want these features it is a great introduction to next gen gaming with fantastic graphics and gameplay potential, but in my opinion, i find that the missing features are vital for the optimal enjoyment of microsoft's new xbox 360 console.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Doubts on 360?????
I think that the 360 is a great console, yet there are those of us who have doubts on the potential of this new piece of kit.
Firstly this whole Blu-ray and HD-DVD thing, if you already own a 360 then you probably know that later on, to get the best out of the 360 you're gonna have to purchase either a new Blu-ray or HD-DVD drive for it! That means that what you spend upgrading your 360(assuming it is the one with the 20GHDD) is going to be more or less the same as the PS3(that already comes with a Blu-ray drive) when that comes out; wasn't microsoft supposed to be backing the HD-DVD standard format?? So how much faith is there in it really behind the scenes of the company???
Secondly Sony seem to have bitten microsoft in the arse with the PSP, as you can download music, movies and games to it yet can't do anything similar, with say, an ipod(for which the download simbol on the xboxlive service looks like) on the xboxlive service. So any true "hardcore" gamer who has a 360 is most likely owning a PSP already, and envitably using the xboxlive service for that.
At the E3 demos both the companies didn't have either console ready at the time, and frankly what the orginal xbox showed it could do when it was unveiled hasn't been done yet(and weren't those graphics more or less what the 360 does now???).Other than Halo and PGR(previously Metropolis street racer) what else truely sets apart the microsoft's console from Metal Gear Solid,Final fantasy,Gran Turismo and Tekken on the PS3,or even Mario, Metroid or Zelda from Nintendo. Given Sony's track record with their demos at E3, of that of the PS2 which have all been obtained, so many of us out there in the gaming comunity still have faith in Sony's new product, as well as a new found curiousity towards Nintendo's strikingly original gaming concept.
Yet everybody knows that it is the games on each console that count, so why are still some games that are on the 360 also availbe on the current xbox and PS2(such as Gun,King Kong,FIFA 2006,etc)other than some slightly better graphics how has that improved on the overall gameplay which matters(so why get a new expensive piece of kit and pay £40 for a new game that we can get it for less on what we've already got?); that proved to be unfortunate for the SEGA Dreamcast(for which seems vaugely familar to that of Microsoft's own consle ambition).Lets not forget Ninendo and how easy(and enjoyable) it proved to get into the online scene with the DS(as powerful as an N64) and how easy it is for other companies to follow suit, already done with the PSP.
In general this is no one horse race, so microsoft's console dream(which isn't largely successful outside of the USA to gamers) still has a lot to live up to the hype that it had been generating previously.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - xbox 360 Core System
The Xbox 360 core system is a great system if you like me don't want to be connected to Microsofts xbox live. Right out of the box you have the Xbox 360 console plus controller and power supply and cable to connect to TV. The only extras I Thing you need are the 64MB memory card to save games from this you can create a gamer tag plus see all goals to complete the games you have. Also the media remote to controll the music playing and DVD side of things without having to have the wired controller connected. All in all a great system to start the next gen with if you don't want to be connected to Xbox live, if you want that side of things go for the full system package

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - NOT IMPRESSED
I have been an xbox owner from the very start thought the xbox was excellent so with all the hype i bought an xbox 360 but i am very disapointed it is very noisey there is no optical output on it for dolby digital witch i was surprised about and unless you have a high definition tv i don't think the look of the games is much better than the original xbox overall not what i expected the only good thing i will say is the design looks quit good but thats it hope the ps3 is better.
