- Other reviewers please GET A GRIP!Let's start things off by challenging some of the brainless things said by other reviewers about games etc. This system has been available for about 6 months. It has taken most developers YEARS to get to grips with the current generation of consoles in order to make their games look amazing. If anyone out there has a PS2 library with games from 2001 and games from 2006 then you can see the difference. I agree that at the moment most of the games on the 360 don't look quite as good as they could, but give it time - these titles will look amazing. It's already happening with games like GRAW and Hitman - Bloodmoney. They look great - and there's potential for more! Also, there seems to be some general Microsoft bashing going on for the sake of it! I'm no great fan of the monopoly of MS but let's get this straight - they have hit the mark with the 360. The fact that Sony are, basically, ripping off the Xbox Live system for the (vastly overpriced) PS3 tells you everything you need to know about the 360's real attraction - online play! It's online where the 360 really grabs you and WONT let go! The joy of playing someone from across the other side of the planet at Quake 4 or EA Fight Night is emmense! Overall, let me please beg you to ignore the idiots on here who probably haven't touched a 360, let alone own one to review. Yes there have been minor glitches, yes there is a way to go with the graphical quality of the games - but this system really is amazing. Oh, one last point, it might be worth holding off till nearer Xmas if you are thinking of getting one. Sony release the PS3 in Nov, and you can bet your house that Microsoft will respond with a fairly big price drop for the 360. Rating: - X-Box 360 Is excellentI preordered my console in July, and was amazed at the videos and screen shots of graphics to come espescially on Ghost recon 3. The graphics in all games are definately much better than X-Box or PS2 graphics and the wireless controllers are great, the charge and play kit lasts for a vey long time. Online play is amazing, talk to friends on the headset send the messages and i have had no problem with the connection or the game rnning slow. I have encountered no games failing to work because of a apparant dirty or damaged disk problem and my console has never frozen and required reseting. Overall this console is amazing and check out the game, "Fight Night" for the best example of the X-Box 360 graphics. Rating: - technical hitchplayed oblivion and when up to level 7 the x box packed up and would not process moves went very very slow... minutes just to walk into a house etc. Boring Rating: - Alot of potential but poor performanceI bought this in the last few weeks. I didn't go for the full HD pack because online play is generally too time consuming or naff and you need broadband, and although I do have this, a lot of people still don't so better then to get the core pack and buy a memory card. I think it would have been fairer of Microsoft to include a memory stick with the core console as they know full well that people will need one. This just drives up the "real cost" of running an Xbox 360. Processing power/ Graphics: The xbox 360 is pretty much a powerhouse as far as processing power is concerned (at the time of writing this review). So in that perspective it is cheap for the price, because to build a similar spec PC would even now cost around £1500 though component prices are falling as always and triple core processors aren't even available only dual core are. However there are issues with this console at this early stage in its life. Games are not installed and saved onto the hard drive as is the case with PCs so this means that the information needed to run the games are constantly being read off the disc and hence the very loud hissing sound as the DVD drive is going all out. I have also found with my console that I sometimes get a disc read error message when playing a game. I'm told that my brand new disc (that has no scratches or finger marks in it), may have dust on it. So I have to reset to re-load the game in order to continue the game. This happened a few times with both Oblivion and Burnout revenge, both were brand new discs. I'm not impressed. The other point is (and it may be more of an optimisation problem rather than a hardware problem) that when I played Oblivion, on the outside world map there was sporadic drawing in of objects and also skipping. Not good. Games: There are very few games out for the xbox 360 and sorry to say that non stand out. The graphics are only a slight improvement on xbox and even PS2 is challenging it on the graphics front. In reality PC owners have been used to this so called level of HD graphics for a very long time. Remember "Rally Championship" anyone? Programmers of xbox 360 have to start doing a better job. The reason why Playstation are dominant and have been for a very long time is because all the best game producers are Japanese. As soon as PS3 comes out, expect Japanese support for the xbox 360 to die out (from a low level anyway). It comes down to a simple equation. If you like the Japanese style of games then you will be disappointed with xbox 360. If you are more European minded with respect to game styling and culture then by all means buy an xbox 360 and hope some decent games come out for it soon. Overall: Better to wait for the PS3 to release. Xbox 360 is a good console but there are no decent games yet to play on it so why buy the console? Think of all the titles that have made home with Sony Playstation, many of them Japanese developers, many of whom will go out of their way to ignore xbox 360 especially when PS3 is released. Also don't underestimate Nintendo Revolution. It may not claim to be as powerful the xbox 360 or PS3 but many of the gaming features that we take for granted today were originated on Nintendo machines and they are the only manufacturer who are being innovative e.g. the DS dual touch screen and they are apparently developing a completely new controller and hence a completely new way to play games on the Revolution (it may end up as a disaster but at least they are trying to be innovative). Plus don't forget that games such as Zelda will only ever appear on Nintendo machines. I wish I hadn't been so impatient and bought the xbox 360. It wasn't worth it and I do regret it.
