Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Horrid, horrid, horrid
The looks and the abilty to use a remote control to activate the radio when I am across the room really sold it to me and when I received it as a surprise gift the following week, you can imagine I was 'chuffed to bits'. Same problems as all the other reviewers. Switching between CD, FM and DAB was a little slow and the dimmer light, not dim enough but I thought, I'd become used to that. Unfortunately the increading volume on alarm made me send back model No.1 for a replacement. Model No. 2 I found was the same so, not wanting to be a Rachel from Friends and return the gift for a refund,I kind of programmed myself to wake 1 minute before the alarm went off! The CD stopped working after 13 months of ownership (12 months warranty). Finally the radio started to crash resulting in silence or near to silence and using the volume knob or remote makes no difference what-so-ever. The only way to reboot this (not even turning it on and off at the plug works) is to scroll throuh to FM and press the preset No. 2 button. If I had bought it, it would have been the worst buy ever and I don't like to sound ungrateful for my present but I have finally lost my patience and purchased a new Pure DAB radio alarm. They say it has a bright LED - but I am used to that already!

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Looks promising but full of flaws
I was quite impressed with this when I first turned it on, unfortunately there are many features and bugs that let it down. As has been said before, there is an annoying feature when the alarm goes off where the volume dramatically increases. This involves waking up and frantically pressing buttons so as not to wake up the neighbours and getting very frustrated in the process. (It does thoroughly wake you.) The volume up and down knob often sticks (as it did the first time I turned it) causing the device to turn to maximum or minimum volume. This is particularly noticable as the volume knob has to be used a lot to recover from the alarm feature. The worst bug is that the radio occasionally 'crashes' resulting in silence. On my unit this happens between once a week and once a month. Pressing standby and returning the power does not resolve the issue but cycling through the functions (CD, FM, etc.) and returning to the DAB radio will resume operation. Two or three times this has caused the alarm (set to radio) not to sound and in one case I have missed a meeting as a result.

I suspect you could just about live with the unit if you did not use he alarm function but I would recommend you look elsewhere.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - GREAT cd/radio - NOT GREAT ALARM!!
I bought this as a treat for myself a few months ago, the cd and remote control a selling point. BUT THE ALARM IS APPALLING!! After being kept awake longer than desirable by the glare of the time (dimming does not really make much difference here), you will be 'jolted' awake each morning (so will everyone else in your house). Trying to reduce the volume is a losing battle, it just keeps on increasing. Tried switching it off and back on, but this did not always work either. The last straw was when the alarm failed to come on at all. It looks nice enough and works ok as just a cd/radio, but for the price especially, I expected much better quality. Use it as an alarm at your peril. I am relieved though, that my experience is not unique, I thought I had bought a faulty one. I have returned it, and no questions were asked when I gave the reason (not even checked to see it was a valid reason....). Intend to buy one manufactured by BUSH; well-what have I got to lose?!

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Very poor design
This unit works OK in most respects, although I have had to reset it a couple of times and the switching between CD, FM and DAB is a little slow.

The serious design fault is with the alarm, however. It is easy enough to set, but when the alarm comes on the volume progressively increases until it is at maximum. Grabbing the remote control and fumbling sleepily with the volume buttons brings the the volume down, *but* as soon as you give up the struggle it rockets back up to maximum. Eventually this stops and you can get the volume to a reasonable level, but you can forget about a relaxing start to the day.

That's when the alarm is set on the radio - using the "beep" you just get an ear-piercing klaxon until you can turn the unit off.

I contacted the manufacturer about this (hoping for a workaround), but heard nothing from them.

I'd strongly recommend looking elsewhere.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Don't let its good looks deceive you!
This was bought as a present for me for my birthday. It has impressive looks, and specification, but if you want to use it's alarm clock function, then FORGET IT!!
When waking up to Dab for instance, radio comes on pleasantly quietly. Fine!...then the volume steps up slightly, Still ok!...then it steps up again, then again...WWWHOOOAAAAA!!!
If you think you are going to get woken up gently, think again! Probably more likely it will have you soiling your bed with fright!!
Looks like this is the norm judging by other reviewers on here, and from Intempo's helpline.
I cannot seriously believe they have marketed this item as an alarm clock, with the actual alarm being it's one serious flaw, a very very unacceptable flaw at that.
I was so sure that this in no way could be a designed feature of the clock, that I returned my first unit...then was absolutely sickened to find out the replacement was exactly the same....then thats when my further research proved that this WAS the norm!!! utterly unbelievable!!!!! This second one is now going back, and I will look for something similar from a different manufacturer...trouble is, there's not a lot of these about!! The other thing that appealed to me was that apparently this was made in England (Manchester), seems the theory is right that we can't make anything here in the U.K.!!
Avoid this if you are looking for an alarm clock!!!
Sickening!
