Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Cure for slow loading
Im not going to go into how good this game is you can read the previous reviews for that, but I too suffered from the highly irritating load times and the freezing. I then mananged to find a fix on the internet and thought I would share it. Basically the game mirrors the saved stuff from the hard drive to the internal cache in an attempt to speed up the game HA HA - obviously this does not work after a while and it all slows down. So the way to fix it is when you turn the Xbox on press the A button and keep it pressed until the main Oblivion screen appears - and hey presto by pressing A you have cleared the chache and load times take a fraction of what it did before!!
Enjoy the game once more!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Best RPG
The Elder Scrolls has a great history in the games world with big hitters Morrowind, Daggerfall and early Pc editions giving the franchise great reputation. The stroy pays homage to a culmination of mythic creatures from Tolkien works, Scandanvian and British Folklore mixed with Bethesdas own stroy elements. The game world is huge but despite its size every part has been given the upmost attention to detail and the look is realistic you can almost smell the grass ad the trass whilst running away from some scoundrel on you horse. The games playability is endless. You are never short of things to do even after 'completing' the story. Most things in the game customly edited. If you love RPGS like KOTOR, JADE EMPIRE, NEVERWINTER NIGHTS, EVEN FINAL FANTASY this game will be down your street. The battle system is repitive but the use of spells redeems this to some extent. However still one of the best games released for XBOX. Wait until mass effect comes out.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Without doubt, the greatest game i've ever played.
I've been playin this game for about 170 hours now and I've still got loads of stuff to do in the main quest. Half the time I actually forget there is a "proper" questline in the game because i'm so engrossed in whatever else it is i'm doing. Whether it be assassinations, Thievery, saving the mages guild, fighting off the healthy competition to the fighters guild, shutting down the numerous infernal oblivion gates dotted around the 16x16km world of Cyrodil or just generally plundering the various ruins/mines that are at every twist and turn. To try and illustrate the vast expanse of this game in words is impossible to be honest. Its something you need to witness and experience for yourself.
The storyline to main quest is an absolute cracker as well. May not be completely original but it has enough in it to call its own. I've just bought the shivering isles as well so ive still got that to look forward to and its practiacally a quarter of the size of the main game. So by my reckoning i'll get at least 40 hours from that and counting.

I'm a Nord in my game. Basically just a barbarian from the cold north who slices and dices his opponents. Unfortunately for me tho, its difficult to become powerful at magic with this race. This gets even more frustrating through the game when you want to buy all these powerful spells but are to incompetent to cast them. But that was my choice and I gotta be content with being a master bladesman. Once i've gone as far as I can with this one i'm gonna start again as a mage. So you gotta pick your character the best you can at the start and accept it if you cant get good at one particular skill.

Graphics are stunning, just a beauty to behold really. Theres nothin like racing down a mountain at sunset on your steed. Absolutely stunning graphics. I see alot of reviews from people complain about pop-ups as you get closer to a building or whatever but it really isnt as bad as people make out. Loading times are a big complaint as well but for me these were not a problem.

Basically....by this game if you have enough time on your hands. It shouldnt be missed by any gamer. I'm an FPS player but was absolutely blown away by this RPG classic.

Admitedly it wont be for all, i've got plenty of friends on x-box live who only amass the 50G for gettin out of the tutorial and then cease to play the game. All i can say is give it a go, and soon you'll be hooked.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Incredible... but not the be all and end all
Yes this game is amazing, beautiful and like no RPG before it (except WoW maybe... but the graphics on this are better)

There is near unlimited scope here, the world is your oyster in this game, suuure you could follow the main quest buy why should you? you dnt have to... you could be a thief... an assasin, a mage, a fighter or even a common crimminal! This game is Like GTA in a fantasy world including being able to steal horses... but better. Hundreds of NPCs to interact with... but the most impressive thing about the AI is that as things in the game world happen (I.E. stuff you do) people will talk about it... once i was in imperail city and two citizens were chatting, one of them mentioned that someone was murdered and i thought to myself... Hey! I killed that guy! Made me chuckle i tell you... (NOTE this doesn't work for random killings, only quest related deaths)

I have a couple of gripes with this however. 1. the quests do become repetetive (except for that dark brotherhood one at the party... wait till you do that one heheheheh) 2. the inter area loading can become annoying and 3. THE GODDAMN GUARDS! WHAT AREY THEY PHSYCIC OR SOMETHING???? JESUS! But apart from that, this game is well worth getting.

Prepare to have your life swallowed by the black hole that is Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Strangely unsatisfying.
I agree with the good points that many of the other reviewers mention - flexible character creation, incredible graphics, gigantic playing world, total freedom of action etc.

The problem is that, once you get over the novelty value and the inital 'wow!' factor, Oblivion is actually a fairly dull game. Character interaction is pretty basic, storylines and quest plots are linear and uninspired, and there is limited humour in the game. The innumerable dungeon areas, while beautifully rendered, have no real depth to them - go in, kill everything, get the treasure, move on to the next dungeon, go in, kill everything and so on.

Having played 20-odd hours of fairly repetitive hack'n'slash, there doesn't appear to be much else on offer in the game other than more of the same and my interest has evaporated.

Worth checking out definitely (because the graphics really are outstanding, probably some of the best on the 360 to date), but I'd recommend a weekend rental rather than a purchase.
