- Great little machine
I have just upgraded from a Sony clear voice mini cassette dictaphone and what a difference there is between the two machines! This machine is about a quarter of the size and weight, ideal for a shirt pocket. Quality of sound recording is excellent. Playback with the inbuilt speaker is adequate. I'm a big fan of the design which allows you to plug it straight into a computer without cables, in my case a Mac. The windows wma format is compatible with quicktime so doesn't present a problem for Mac users.
I would give this unit 5 stars if it had a metal body as opposed to a silver plastic one, and if the memory was bigger. 256mb is ample for voice recording but not so useful as a usb key. There is a 1GB version which is black but £[...] more and imho doesn't represent the current price of flash memory (very cheap). 7dayshop are currently selling a 2GB Samsung usb key for about £8!

- Amazing!
This really is quite amazing. It weighs so little, slips into my pocket and is just so simple to use. I have recorded a talk and a church service, with music - just leaving it on a seat and letting it do its stuff. The result has been very good - both in the quality of sound it captures and its sensitivity.
A small gripe is that the display screen is hard to read - not surprising given the size of the device.
A good buy. I just hope I don't drop it as it feels quite fragile.

This recorder is the best one I have ever bought. It is very easy to use and is excellent for taking notes if you are doing a course. It transfers straight onto your pc with no problems at all. The buttons are all clearly marked and easy to press. Don't make the mistake I made buying a pen digital voice recorder that burned out after 8 weeks. This Olympus one will give you alot of pressure and you will be glad you bought it. 10 out of 10. Well worth the money.

I was looking for a digital voice recorder to help with my lectures at University. I initially was hunting for something quite cheap, but I also needed something that could easily load onto my laptop without aggravation. After reading some of the reviews I opted for the Olympus. It cost much more than I had intended on spending but it is definitely worth every penny!
I got it today, literally from taking it out of the box and having a quick read of the instructions,I have already recorded some voice samples, plugged into my laptop and played back within seconds. I also loaded some music from my windows media player and it loaded up faster than my MP3 player!
It's extremely compact, very lightweight, uploads and downloads at lightening speed. Buy it, you won't be dissapointed. I do agree with one of the other reviews in that the only thing that could make this better would be a nice little cover to protect it from everyday use.

I purchased this little wonder last week, and I cannot praise it enough.
It is so compact & light, that you don't realise you have it on you. The built in microphones pick up everything, as long as the enviroment is sutably amplified, and in HQ mode, will happily record for over 8 hours.
