- I have spent the last 10 years...
....thinking that mario games were for kids only. What a moron i am. The is a REALLY great game. The single player is very addictive with a nice learning curve. I'm only on world 2 at the moment and i know the game will last me ages. However the real gem for me are the minigames which are AMAZING, really AMAZING. whether it be playing poker against Luigi or drawing trampolines using the stylus to save Mario the minigames are really first rate and worth the purchase price alone. Sorry this review is brief but i have to make up 10 years of non mario time :)

I bought a DS Lite recently and after seeing many positive reviews for this game, decided to buy it. Super mario bros is an exceptional game and very very addictive! You will be coming back for more no matter how frustrated you get in this platform game. The graphics are superb and the gameplay is one of the best ever. You also get the mini-games from super mario 64 which just adds to the fun! Overall there are 8 worlds with many levels in each world. The game is also not short and has superb replay value.
This is a great game and even if you have not played Mario before, i guarantee you will not be disappointed. Essential for any DS owner.
Rating: - Mario is back after fourteen years
This game is all I hoped for and more. Inspired mostly by 'Super Mario Bros. 3' and 'Super Mario World' but taking ideas and enemies from 'Super Mario Bros.', 'Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island' and 'Super Mario 64', 'New Super Mario Bros.' sees the return of classic enemies, classic level designs and classic moves but adds a new twist, weaving 3d character models into the design with seamless perfection. Though many have said it's quite short, I have to disagree, as it's about the length of the original 'Super Mario Bros.' but contains the hidden paths and collectables that made 'Super Mario World' one of the best platformers ever.
The presence of these hidden paths and star coins add great longevity to the game. Much of the enjoyment comes from spotting old enemies - I believe all of the first game's enemies and many of the later ones return, from goombas, fire bars to spinning buzzy beetles - and classic style levels such as mushroom sky levels, bowser's castle and ghost houses. In fact the only things that are missing are flying powers and Yoshi - otherwise it's much like 'Super Mario World' but better.
Overall a fantastic game that mixes everything good about the classic games with many new things. The attention to detail is marvellous with the enemies 'dancing' to the beats of the theme music to the physics of some ledges / mushrooms. Even the classic end of level music returns - but you have to know how to get it :-) It's just a shame that the original level one music only makes an appearance in the mushroom houses, and the fantastic underwater music is absent.
I would recommend this game to any DS owner. The main game and the mini games add to a fantastic package that will appeal to those of us who remember playing Mario twenty years ago and to anyone who has yet to pick up a 2D Mario game.
Rating: - Finally, a new side-scroller
I always liked the side-scroller mario games and when i bought this game, i was overjoyed at the gameplay! This is exactly like the old games except:
better graphics
new abilities (wall jump, ground pound, triple jump)
new power-ups (giant mushroom, tiny mushroom, blue shell)
new enemies
I liked the multiplyer function the best! you can play mario vs luigi, controls are the same as in 1 player but you try to get stars and attack the other person to steal stars. and you can play multiplyer minigames. there are a lot more multiplyer minigames than singleplayer minigames.
The minigames i was a little disappointed with. There was only 3 new single player minigames and the rest were from super mario 64 ds. I was happy with the multiplyer ones though.
Buy or rent? buy of course

- Classic Old-Skool Platforming.
How often do you find yourself saying "they dont make games like they used to?" Probably quite a lot if you are a retro geek like me.
Well here's a game that they have made like they used to. Side-scrolling platform loveliness, with beautifully vibrant colours. There are just enough new features to keep the game feeling fresh.
So how does this game stand up against the old classics like the original 3 Mario Bros and Super Mario world? Surprisingly well.. It combines elements from Mario Bros 3 (the style of the level select menu) and the gameplay feels like Mario World, but much smoother (you'll understand once you play it).
New Super Mario Bros doesnt use the touch screen just for the sake of it, which is nice. A few other games I've played have been spoilt by excessive use of the touch screen for no apparent reason.
All in all New Super Mario Bros is a fantastic new addition to a fantastic series of games.
