Small compact and fun. The system retains the functionality of the old console, in a smaller shell essentially. The games are fun innovative and exclusive to this console which is the biggest bonus. It still cannot do as much as the PSP, but it is getting a web browser soon, and half the PSP functions are not used anyway, they are just used to show off the console!
You will use every function on the Nintendo DS Lite, I guarantee!
As for cracks appearing on White DS Lites, I have read reports too and seen alarming pictures, but my ds lite *touch wood* is fine and shows no signs of the cracks mentioned. It must be a fault on a few models.

Fantastic handheld which has produced hours of fun. Graphics, sound and games are exceptional.
However, reports are emerging of small cracks appearing on the left hinge in the white model, just noticed one on mine having read about this on a number of sites. Nintendo are refusing to recognise this as a design fault and are charging for repairs. The cracks are not appearing on the black model, so buy this instead. If it wasn't for the durability, this would be a 5 star rating.

I have just brought the new nintendo ds lite in white and i love it! It's well worth the money you spend on it and it's better than the normal nintendo ds. For people who want a nintendo ds i would say that the nintendo ds lite is better and more fun! I love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The system is exellent it has loads of features which will never get you board!
The amazing thing about it is that the touch screen, the wifi so you can play with someone who is on the other side of the world wireless, and the local play where you only have 1 card and other people are playing against you

I have a white DS Lite, it has an mixture of a matt white finish (inside and the "spine") and a "deep" glossy finish (it has a clear layer over the white that gives a deep gloss look). Looks wise this is much like the Nindendo Gameboy Advance SP, but with a better finish. The screens are much brighter and evenly lit, they have a glossy finish that makes the colours really zing. The controls are much like those on the Gameboy Micro and set further back, which seems right. Gameboy Advance carts stick out a bit, and Nintendo put a little blank in the box that completes the look when you've not got a GBA cart in.
The charger is similar to the one with the Gameboy Micro rather than the old DS one. The unit charges much faster.
Nindendo have dropped the "thumb strap" though there is a loop for it (or a normal strap). The pen is also new, slightly thicker and longer, two are supplied in the box.
The start and option buttons have moved and are now tiny (though easy to push). The power button has gone and been replaced with a slider on the side of the unit (it was quite easy to push the power button on the old DS when you were playing - very annoying, so this change is welcome).
The software seems unchanged, except the backlight has no "off" setting, and now has 4 levels (the lowest is about the same as the old "on" setting on the DS). As everyone has said the screens are fantastic and makes the games look much better on this unit, the colours are much more vivid. The screens remind me of the one found on the Gameboy Micro, though they are as big as the DS ones.
The mic has been moved to inbetween the displays. It carries the same headphone jack as before, and the again has a slider for volume. It remains much easier to get working with a wireless network than the PSP.
In short this takes all the best bits of Nintendo's handhelds and puts it all together with a lot of style - this is a significant step forward from the DS, mostly because of the screens.
