Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - To Win is to Lose...
The coining of the term "classic series" for episodes of Doctor Who made before the 2005 revival has served to heighten the perceived differences between the show, then and now. Having been brought up with "classic" Doctor Who I am required to forever compare the new show with the old. Of course, the memory plays tricks. So, whilst the new series is great television, it stands little chance against the cherished, if innacurate, memories I have of the "classic" series.
In truth, of the new stories so far, only four or five can stand their own in comparison with vintage Who, with at least half of those coming in this second series (so at least that standard hasn't dropped, yet). But, for these few gems, I feel its worth the plough through the reams of average which has been churned out.
The downsides of this second batch of episodes are generally inherited from those of last years' series; stories which aren't given time to breathe, repetitive ideas and situations, regular characters which fluctaute between just about tolerable and downright irritating, style persistantly triumphing over substance, and, most curiously, a lack of good old fasioned science fiction. Ironically however it is these very points which can be accredited for the shows triumphant return and renewed popularity. Much like a troublesome child in an old nursery rhyme; when they are good, they are very very good. When they are bad, they are horrid.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Fantastic except for one episode
As a long Dr Who fan, i thoroughly enjoyed watching this new series after seeing the regeneration from Christopher Eccleston into David tennant, it made me even more intereted in seeing the new actor in his role, and i wasnt totally dissapointed;
The Christmas Invasion- I really enjoyed watching this on the night of Christmas Day, it was a very good way to begin the new series and the new dr- 10/10
New Earth- A very different episode than what ive seen before, but i found the Billie Piper and David Tenants acting outstanding in their different characters- 8/10
Tooth and Claw- An episode which intended for the children to be hidden behind the sofas, proved to be an amzing episode- 10/10
School Reunion- An emotional return of Sarah Jane Smith, meting the drs new companion was made into a comic scene where they were stating how the dr hasnt changed from the old series, very funny scenes. Great acting by all stars including Elizabeth Sladen and Anthony Stewart Head- 9/10
The Girl in the fireplace- The best episode ever of dr who- 10/10
Rise of the cybermen- After around 17 years, the cybermen returned for an amazing battle against the dr and Rose- 10/10
The age of steel- Another amazing episode- 10/10
The Idiots Lantern- Not th greatest, but still a good episode, with some good CGI images- 8/10
The Impossile Planet- Another spooky episode where it seems theres no way out for the dr and rose- 9/10
The Satan Pit- Amazing acting and amazing CGI images makes this a great episode- 9/10
Love and Monsters- Im sorry to say that this is a dr who episode, considering the dr and rose had 5 mins in the episode. Bad story, but ok acting- 1/10
Fear her- One of those stories that remind you of the film Boogeyman, "he's coming to get you" sort. A great story, with ok acting- 7/10
Army of ghosts- The beginning of the end of the series, with the one of the greatest shocking moment ever in the history of the series- 10/10
Doomsday- I admit it, i hardly ever cry at tv programmes, but this one had me in tears, because of the climax and the AMAZING acting from all actors- 10/10

With great special features. I am definately going to buy this DVD and i recommend it to anyone interested in Dr Who or/and Sci-fi.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - doctor who who
at first when my parents said they used to watch it when they were kids and that it was coming back i thought its gonna be really lame but i sat down and watched it and as they say the rest is history i abosorlty love it. i cant get enough of the show i just hope i get them both for my birthday. but when eccleston left i was worried if they would be able to replace him but they did and he's even better i just hope they can do the same with replacing billie piper she was fantstic i just wish she never lefted.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - fantastic apart from love and monsters
I've been a doctor who fan for 10 years and when they announced that they were making a new series I was excited. I loved the first series but didn't like Chris Eccleston too much then David Tennant came along and then I loved every episode apart form the treble episode that is love and monsters. Any way I recommend this for every doctor who fan. Now I have to decide whether I should get this shelve saving box set or the limited edition one from Amazon which won't fit in with my other doctor who DVDs decisions decisions. Below is my rating of this seasons episodes.

Christmas invasion 8/10
New earth 7/10
Tooth and claw 9/10
School reunion 8/10
The girl in the fireplace 10/10
The rise of the cybermen+ the age of steel 7/10
The idiots lantern 6/10
The imposable planet + the satain pit 10/10
Love and monsters 1/10 (worst episode ever)
Fear her 6/10
The army of ghosts + doomsday 10/10
