Electronics : RAC 220 GPS Unit

This is my first SatNav and I bought this because of the favourable reviews elsewhere and that it had a large screen. I did not want to put my reading glasses on whilst driving.
The unit was simple to use from the box and did not require initial reading of the manual. The unit fitted easily to two different cars (window sucker) and the large screen was not an impediment.
Installation/deinstallation takes time to connect/disconnect the sucker assembly to the window, the unit to the sucker assembly, the car power cable to the lighter socket and the traffic radio arial cable along the width of the dashboard. There is a nice little bag to put the screen and slip it into your large pocket or handbag.
The screen is simple to follow and not over-cluttered. The system adapts to deviations in the route rather than forcing the driver back to the pre-defined route.
The Location directory worked fine for place names and partial or full postcodes.
The female voice was clear and loud although the volume control was not intuitve : turn the control up to turn the volume down.
On the top right of the screen is the icon of the feature that is next to be announced, such as a roundabout. On the lower right is the feature after that. On the centre right is the decrementing distance to the next feature and your speed.
The map is easy to read, and a host of optional details can be selected/deselected for display.
Can be easily used by the most low-tech of drivers

I have just upgraded from the RAC110. The bigger screen is worth buying this unit for his feature alone. Perhaps not the most well known brand of sat nav out there but don't let that put you off. The telephone helpline is anwered in the UK and the staff there are very helpful, even if it is operator error!! You can of course spend double the money but the Route 66 maps are bang up to date and it is easy to use the unit straight out of the box. Go on you know you want one. Buy with confidence. You will not be disappointed.

PROS: Traffic Message Channel works to re-route you around traffic problems, good range of POI and Speed camera database that warns you, and keeps warning you untill your below the speed limit
CONS: When you enter a postcode it doesnt tell you the address just the area that postcode is in! 99% of the time it is spot on but there is room for inprovement, and no qwerty keyboard
