Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - online play is full of cheats
Played the single player missions and all very good nice graphics great sound just a bit linear but still very good then i thought ill play online that's what really makes the game its absolute mayhem, but i get the feeling that even with punk-buster installed the the game is riddled with hackers and cheats it just spoils it ,try to find a cheat free server and have a go you wont be disappointed.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - multiplayer heaven
One of the most involved multiplayers i have come across. very addictive and rewarding. work your way up through hundreds of ranks and play numerous forms of engagement such as headquarters, search and destroy and plenty more. Worth every penny just for the multiplayer alone. great graphics. Buy it.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - the best COD ever!!!
well what can i say, this game is breathe takingly great!!! it has the best graphics, the best sound, the best game play, the wepons sound proper and sound like reaL wepons and the skill needed to play is beyond your wildest dreams. to play this you have to be the best at tactics, stealth and markmanship. this game is not for rookies, you need to be playing at expert level to play. no wimps allowed only MEN!! play this once and i grant you, you will be back for more, cause its so addicting to play. this is real life simulation to the max, nothing else compares or even comes close to this game.
its a MUST buy.!!!

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - A war game with an anti-war message?
Overall a brilliant game but a tad short in my opinion; i feel it would have been better if maybe you could have played a few missions as a Russian as well as the Marine and the SAS Trooper. The weapons in the game are good although some are a lacking in regards to appearance and operation (the G36C is a good example).

Be warned that you need a high end machine to play COD4; my pc is no slouch (AMD 64X2 3800, 3gb RAM, 7600GT 256mb and an Audigy 4 sound card)and it struggles with anything above 800x600 60hz resolution with a lot of the graphics extras turned off. The same with the sound; unless you have a good (and i mean GOOD) sound card, your pc will struggle.

But one twist is that towards the end of the game, the little quotes you get on screen when you get 'killed' are things like the cost of a B2 Bomber and other fact and figures - these give an overall impression (and rightly so) of how 'unglamorous' and destrucive war is.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Very Over-rated
The PC isn't short of very high-quality FPS titles, and while Call of Duty 4 isn't terrible, until it hits budget prices it'll be too expensive.
The good points include the game engine, which produces very high quality visuals and sound effects, including newer effects like depth-of-field shader effects (if you're looking down a gunsight, the rest of the world becomes subtly out of focus; very neat). And, it's efficient, running very well on less than top-end hardware, with high levels of detail. There are several pretty dramatic set-pieces, and at least two levels that I enjoyed immensely (the AC-130 gunner level, and the "All Ghillied Up" level set in Pripyat, near Chernobyl, is frankly terrific.). Much of the rest, however, is a big grind in places.

There are several bad points too:
-The single-player game is completely, totally linear - you're constantly told where to go and what to do (and often lead there by AI team-mates). There is no scope for e.g. skirting around the area or doing anything except direct fighting - because there isn't anywhere else to go. FEAR, for example, is good at covering up the linearity by giving you wider, more open spaces, but most of CoD4 is cramped, and in other places, you're given a time limit which prevents you exploring anyway.

-The single-player game is very, very short - 6-8 hours at most. An experienced FPS player (e.g. me) will finish it in 2 or 3 days even on high difficulty. If you play on anything less than medium I doubt it'll last you more than 1-2 days.

-Your AI teammates, as usual, are pretty thick. You'll see them blazing away at the baddies, but.....not actually hitting much. To make up for this, however, they're either invulnerable, or infinitely replaceable - which brings us to :

-Possibly the biggest single problem in the title is - get this - the infinite number of re-spawning enemies to fight through. Yes, that game mechanic that went out of date in 1995 is still present and correct (although to be fair, the entire Call of Duty series also uses it). Once you reach a trigger point, the bad guys simply start coming from a different direction until you reach the next one. The game is made difficult simply by throwing hundreds of bad guys at you, all of whom shoot furiously. You therefore inch through levels, dying dozens of times as you do.

The Multiplayer side of things is better; the "perks" system allows you to customise your weapons and abilities by creating character classes as you like. You need to unlock these abilities, however. Although you attain these unlocks quite quickly, you will be at a good disadvantage at the outset from more experienced players, and each round is very, very, VERY fast-paced. It'll either appeal to you or not, I think, since the multiplayer is as un-subtle as the single player game.

This is a decent enough title, but not at full price, and it is inexplicably popular, probably just due to the fact that it's one of the better games on the Xbox 360 and is therefore getting a lot of publicity. It's nowhere near being Game of The Year, though, or "b3st FPS 3vAr". For that, see Bioshock, STALKER, or Crysis instead.
