Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - great game play just too short and easy
this is a brilliant game and online play is great but like halo 2 the singleplayer is just too easy (i reccomend if you are a serious pc gamer start on hard) and doesn't last that long. i was ashamed to see that on the pc there was no prestige mode (a challenge system which made rewarding gameplay at least 4 times longer) which ment people who had no life would get to level 55 (top level) in under 2 days on multiplayer. despite al of this the graphics are amazing and play well on my mid-range pc. the story line is detailed and although not offering much freedom, it flows perfectly. making you want to stay to the mission and not wander off. the multiplayer maps are great and weapon and challenge award system is brilliant making you have extra online play. the online games are the standard types but the maps are so good you can play it lots of different ways.
i dont own any of the other call of duty's and have only played half an hour at a friends of call of duty 2 but deffinitly the producers have almost flawlessly made the step up from ww2.
i would of given this a five if it wasn't so short but i am still playing from christmas so that must be a good sign!
i would recommend buying it but if you are used to fps's i would stick it on hard first time round as this was my first computer fps and i found it quit easy on medium. if not for the single player (which its story is engrossing) then the outstanding multiplayer.
happy gaming people!!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - there's somthing going on when a PC game is still full price after 5 months!
Multiplayer is where this game shines. Singleplayer is very damn fine, but at the same time it's not a Bioshock or Half Life 2, which is fair enough. My review is just about the multiplayer.

I returned to PC after years of Halo 2 and then a couple of months being disappointed about how rubbish Halo 3 was. I was amazed to find that PC gaming was alive and well; there where absolutely tonnes of people playing and the dedicated servers totally eliminate the lag issues so long as you check the latency before connection.

Call of Duty's main online strength for me is the huge variety of game play. It ranges from huge Team Death match style carnage, sometimes up to 50 players on one server slugging it out. To more tactical game modes, one mode almost identical to Counterstrike (but defiantly more freindly to new players).

The playing style does focus a great deal on observation and long range combat, but if this if not your thing you can have great success playing a more stealthy game. Silence your weapon, wander from the main battle and flank your opponents from the shadows. Nothing is quite as satisfying as storming that irritating sniper with a silenced MP5.

Some of you who find the intense focus on observation for hidden enemies amongst the games incredible detail rather frustrating, especially at first. It must be said that Call of Duty can be rather unforgiving in this respect which is fairly typical for these post Ghost Recon/Counterstrike era tactical-lite shooters.

Also the tenancy for ridiculous grenade spamming on larger games can be irritating.

Depending what you like therefore you may simply prefer a game like Team Fortress 2 for it's visual clarity and old school gameplay, I certainly think though that they are currently the two best online shooters but also almost completely opposite.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Get this game you will not be disaponted!
firstly i dont know what Mr. W. J. Vallance was on about i guess he aint used to PC games as all FPS have the wasd controls! the sound are spot on i guess he needs to get so good speakers then! and the graphics are so realistic! And even get me started on Multi-player! there servers are always packed with people and it is so addictive and fun!

Best game of 2007 dont miss out on it! playing as SAS is cool and there is a good story to right up to date with currunt affairs! obviously the characters are made up but the different armed forces and alliences could happen!

dont miss out my most favorit game!

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Nothing Special
I bought COD4 and returned it on the same day. After a couple of weeks I began feeling guilty that I hadn't given this game a fair chance, so I down-loaded a crack to get it going again. I must say that the second time around I enjoyed it A LOT more.

Not after long though I started to get the old annoyances that I had experienced before: They treat you like a complete dork, saying stuff like "we don't recommend that you play on medium difficulty"(I wonder what COD veterans thought of that). The physics don't suck, because there are NO physics. Objects do not respond to firing and the whole thing feels like your on a console. The first mission takes place on a ship (much like at the end of Crysis), only it looks much worse; water effects are merely poor 'slide-show' textures, and on that mission one of the guys says "I keep this for close encounters", have I heard that line before? Ah yes, they stole it from the film Alien, very tacky indeed. The main assault weapon sounds like a nail gun, has no ka-boom to it at all. The grenade explosions look crap, causing no damage to their surroundings other than humans. No motion blur by the way. The graphics are worse than Far Cry, and Far Cry came out 4 years ago.

Overall this game is nothing new, nothing special. Visually it's just your normal everyday game. Story-wise, your just a novice soldier following your team around, no freedom of play whatsoever. Get Crysis instead

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Superb gameplay, graphics & sound-effects
C o D 4 is top-o-the-pile at the moment.

Nice storyline, gameplay touches & visual effects.

It's just eclipsed Crysis!
