- Great sound but won't last!
I've had 2 pairs of these and BOTH have gone the same way.
When I first bought these I thought "WOW! These are great". The sound was rich and detailed, they fitted well and were very comfortable. Then, after a couple of months, I started to lose sound from one of the buds, causing the balance to shift off centre. This gradually got worse until the phones were unusable.
I thought I'd just been unlucky and, because I liked them so much, I stupidly bought another pair only to have exactly the same thing happen after another 2 months.
I'm currently in the process of complaining to Sennheiser.
If you do decide to buy these then keep the receipt, but If I were you I'd save yourself the trouble.

Firstly a quick note in response to the many reviews that make comments like "I bought these for £5 and they're rubbish, I'm never buying Sennheiser again" - Simple logic dictates that if you get something for under a tenner when the rrp is £30+ it's blatantly obvious you're buying a fake, I bet the less scrupulous eBay sellers love you !
Please please please Amazon clamp down on the fake sellers, and remove feedback that is slating Sennheiser for products they quite clearly haven't been responsible for making, it's extremely bad publicity for a company that has always produced very high standard headphones. If people want to shoot themselves in the foot by "saving money" and buying blatant fakes the genuine manufacturer shouldn't suffer as a result, nor the buying public be mislead.
I'm extremely fussy when it comes to the quality of my music. I've had a pair of Sennheiser HD590's for several years now (bought for £150) and they've been fantastic (in fact, such is Sennheiser's quality - I was even proud to flash about the very smart and solidly build "free" watch that came with them in public), their cordless headphones were similarly impressive (although a bit extra volume on those wouldn't go amiss), so when it came to buying a proper pair of headphones for my mp3 player it just had to be Sennheiser again, no question. Ok so my HD590's sound great even with the cheapest mp3 player, but because of their size I look stupid wearing them out in public !
The CX300's haven't disappointed, sound quality is brilliant as usual and the sound deadening is perfect, they completely block out those irritating people on trains who think the entire carriage want to hear their mindless chatter (even if you've been unlucky enough to have had one of them sit right next to you !)
Comparing them with the considerably more expensive HD590's is a little bit unfair, but nevertheless although the midrange and treble of the CX300's don't match up to the HD590's, the bass is extroadinary for such tiny speakers, I've never heard anything quite like it, if I could have the bass of the CX300's with the treble and midrange of the HD590's it would be an unbelievable combination.
There's only 2 downsides - firstly I couldn't cope with these in my ear canals for very prolonged periods because I find they start making my ears ache, but for an hour or so they're great, and a very good match for the Creative Zen MP3 player I'm using them with. Secondly, my wife keeps nicking them off me - she says she's never heard music sound like it does through these, and that's really saying something because she's never shown any appreciation for my audio kit before, despite having had some very good high-end Hi-Fi setups.
I've just ordered another 2 pairs for my son and daughter - these CX300's have further reinforced my view that when it comes to headphones, there's 1 company that are head and shoulders above the competition. Nice one Sennheiser :-)

Other reviewers have flagged up some problems and I just wanted to clear a few things up. Firstly, people have said the sound is sometimes muddy. I have to disagree because I listen to rock and some metal and it is fantastic and very crisp. Believe me, if you use the right fit of earbud they are amazing. Secondly, people say the wires are different lengths from the split and this looks silly and is impractical. You are supposed to put the long one around the back of your neck, voila, it is no longer a problem. Lastly, people say you can hear the wire when you walk. If you wear them around your neck you cannot hear the wire at all. I am very glad I got these, and at such a good price. My sister's boyfriend works in a Hi-fi shop and knows about these things. In his shop they are more expensive and he says they are out of there league for the money you pay.

i am speechless, the sound quality, clarity, bass, midrange and anything, you name it, is brilliant on this little headphones.
one thing though, since i've been using these, i cannot use any other headphone, simply because the sound quality is incomparable. i am not using a high end mp3 player either, only using a 2GB sony walkman, but i just don't want to take them off my ears. it's also light weight, u don't feel anything when it's on. and when you take it off your ears after hours, you don't feel anything, whereas with my other ear/headphones, my ears would have been in pain.
it has it's own downside though, the cable is a bit, a little bit short. and the sound isolating isn't the best, if you listen to your music, loudly, people around can still hear, not as much as the normal one, but it isn't 100% silent, but must say you cant hear anything from outside once you are listening to your music. another downside is the volume. it is loud, for example, my sister can't listen to music at max vol, but for me, it's not as loud as i expected. it's controlled, because when you turn the volume up to the maximum, you can still hear the music clearly, whereas with philips and sony headphones, you wouldn't have heard 50% of the music.
but for this price, i am absolutely amazed. just thinking how Senn HD650 would sound like. in the end, there shouldn't be anything stopping you from buying these, if you are after some HQ headphones. i recommend it totally.

I've had 3 pairs of these earphones, and all three of them have broken one way or another, within a month. With the first pair, sound cut out in the left ear, with the second, sound became to quiet to make out anything and now with the third pair, sound has gone from the left ear again.
This is all under normal usage. It's a real shame because I had so much respect for Sennheiser, and there aren't many good replacements at this price point.
If you buy these, make sure you really take care of them, I mean like buy a case.
