worth every single penny... £144 is an absolute bargin trust me. I did a lot of research and this rightly came out on top. The battery life is fine (may go down in time?) but that's a small risk compared to what you are getting here. Brilliant video quality and I noticed an improvement in sound quality (from my ipod mini). Black is of course the way to go =D looks great, perfect size and all my friends are jealous! when you're 17 and everyone in college has an mp3 that's no easy feat either haha!

I have had two of these devices (the second was a replacement due to poor cell life), and both have had very poor battery life.
With all of the suggested power reduction recommendations made by Apple (no EQ, no back light, no jumping from track to track, etc), I can confirm that I have had no more the 3.5hrs audio playback (50% volume).
Video play back lasts about 1.5hrs, although the screen looks great.
Cover flow is a nice concept, but it adds to the battery drain in a big way, so I've had to avoid using it.
My older photo iPod lasts many times longer. Apple are great at their novel GUI design, etc, and the device is iconic. However, their battery issues have been around for at least a 2-3 of years which, being the big company that they are, they should be ashamed about.
This last iPod purchase marks the last time I take a risk with an Apple product. I had really hoped they'd sorted this issue out by now, but instead I feel very disappointed.
Having had two units suffer with the same poor performance, I am either particularly unlucky, or they do have issues.
Do yourself a favour and do a little more research before making the plunge.

I've been putting off buying a Ipod for some time now, but I decided to buy one after trying my friends. Its an exeptional piece of kit, and is superb value for money. My only complaints are that the silver backing piece is incredibley easy to scratch, and the supplied earphones feel cheap in comparison to the player. I would suggest buying both a replacement pair of earphones and a decent cover to protect the Ipod. Apart from that, job well done Apple

My first iPod was a 20gb Clickwheel and although it had to be sent back 2 times before I got a fully functional one, when my final one came I was very pleased with the way it worked, and so much so that now I have a need for a new music player due to a bigger music library, I am more than happy to look again at iPods for their ease of use and reliability. The iPod is easy to use, and it usually only takes a few seconds to get to any song I want. Battery is brilliant and videos play very well on it. Great capacity for a good price.
Only Big downer for me is the headphones. I have met many people now who also find that the headphones just don't stay in their ears and the same applies for me. So overall a great bit of kit but remember if you use it on the move a lot or have perfect Apple-designed ears, you might have to splash out on some new headphones too.

For years I have avoided buying an iPod, simply because I refused to buy into something that always just seemed like a fad. But it got to the stage where I needed a new MP3 player, and this appeared to be the best value I could find, and of course there's not denying it looks great. It's a good idea to replace the earphones as the ones supplied don't really carry any bass, but once that is sorted the sound quality is brilliant. The only thing I would note is that despite having kept the player in a silicon case since having it, (about a month now), the silver back has become scratched - some of which are pretty bad. Obviously it probably would have been even worse without the case so I recommend shopping around a bit for at least some sort of case as it appears to be essential for keeping the player safe. Other than that the cover flow works well (as long as iTunes can find all the artwork, but the odd gap doesn't hinder this feature too much) and the menu system is easy to navigate. Value = great, Usability = great, Music transfer = great. Thumbs up overall!
