- A total disaster
After reading through all the reviews for the Zen 8gb, I thought I'd give it a go. Just my luck I get a real dog! Firstly, the radio didn't work with barely a signal indicated even pointing it at the radio mast 2 miles away! Next I couldn't download Audible files, despite it being 'Audible ready', Audible didn't recognise it, although I was more successful with my photos and some of my videos. Then it irretrievably crashed, after about four hours 'use' - I haven't even had it 24 hours! I've ordered a replacement, such is my faith in all of you reviewers who gave it high marks - I must be a masochist, but it will be my third attempt at getting the right one, so maybe I'll get lucky - but I'm not holding my breath!
UPDATE 14th August Got a replacement today. Before I did anything else I tried the radio and got no signal at all. I've completely lost faith in it so haven't bothered with the rest. It's going back.

- Great Little MP3 Player
Have had this little machine for 3 days now and i find that it is great.. I am not a great music fan but wanted something to listen to on the bus etc and this should do the job.
It is small and the sound quality is great. It works with the earphones that i have but am using the ones with the machine as they are fine for me.
At the moment of posting this there is only 1 bad point and that is it does not come with a mains charger and can only be charged with the USB port on the computer (which is ok for me) but in 3 days i have not had to charge it so far.
I am just getting used to the menu system and when playing music i would like a choice of changeing the Equaliser easily (by a single button) but that is a minor thing.
The Video quality is great for the small screen though i would not watch a movie on it but is good for music vidoes which i have put some across onto it.
The Radio is excellent and have preset ahout 3 or 4 stations. Not sure why there is a need for 32 presets as am not sure there are that many good radio stations on my radio.
Sorry for the long review did not mean to go on but this is a great little machine.......
Rating: - Too many problems with too many players
This product has far more good reviews than bad, so clearly when it works, it works well, but there seem to be still a lot of problems for many buyers. My daughter had 2 of the 4GB version before finally getting one that would charge correctly. I opted for the Zen once I heard hers and thought what a good product it was. Sadly, the software doesn't load correctly (it's not a pc problem) and the thing is constantly charging even after only being turned on. I've run no functions as I can't load it with anything as the software won't install. It is very disappointing. Looks good and I know that it can be good....eventually, but for this price there shouldn't be any hassle. I regret Amazon will be getting it back post haste.

Creative ZEN 8GB MP3 Player
This is a good player, well designed and with an impressive array of features. It sounds good and is easy to use if the over elaborate software is avoided.
However, it has a habit of disconnecting and reconnecting itself from and to the computer (A goood spec Acer Laptop with no history of difficulty with any USB device). This makes file transfer difficult if not impossible. Subsequently, I find this problem well documented on various websites. It seems to me to be to do with the battery charging circuit and its battery protection so it happens when the item is near or fully charged.
The item is now returned to Amazon after 1 day. Too much hassle.

This is my third creative mp3 player, I have an ageing zen plus (30gb hard drive) and the excellent zen stone.
This zen 8gb is just so cute! I only use it for music playback but it is so excellent I'll give it full rating just for that. You have to install some software so your pc recognises the device, after that I use windows explorer to transfer music, just copy and paste from the folder in your pc to the player, it's really easy. The only extra factor to remember is to create a playlist of all the tracks in each folder in your pc before transfer, you then can then access these tracks via the 'playlist' heading in the player.
The battery life is excellent, easy to power via the usb cable and also via the 12v supply in your car (lead not supplied but my tomtom lead fits).
Sound quality is excellent, screen gets a bit smudgy but that doesn't bother me, I just love it!
