Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Superb
I am stunned at just how good this game is! Even better than N64 version.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Absolutely Fantastic and well above my expectations!
This game took a while to come out, this I know. But boy, was the wait WORTH IT!

The single player is, for once, a challenge. Gone is the usual Mario Kart way of blazing through and unlocking everything in one shot. This one is tough because 1) New Control Styles 2) New vehicles and 3) They actually tried to make it a challenge!

I all ready mentioned it, so now here it is- reviewing the Wii Wheel. Personally, my choice when it comes to the many control types. It just feels so different, and nothing compares. The handy B trigger button makes drift a piece of cake, and it feels entirely unique to be jerking your hands side to side. The fact that you can mix and match control types is fantastic as well.

Then, the wifi. They went the whole hog with this as well. You can play with up to two people from one console online and, as soon as you unlock the ability to play with your mii, it is very enjoyable. For me, as the game isn't quite released in America yet, wifi is a gem as you only race Europeans or Japanese. What's more, with the ability to 'snake' removed, i personally find wifi more fulfilling and less blind luck and hoping that you don't end up playing a 'snaker'.

You can also wifi your Time Trials, as well, with the addition of the Mario Kart Channel. The channel performs several functions- 1) Acts as a friend roster and gives you the ability to invite friends with the wii message board.
2) Downloads pieces of ghost data from around the world for you to pit your skills against in 'ghost races'.
3) Acts as a Time Trial ranking display against friends etc and
4) The mysterious, unexplained and currently unusable "Competitions" feature.

It's time trial bit i want to focus on here. From here, you can hop back and forth between a numerbline-style display of your race times in comparison with friends, the continent/ continental champion and the world/world champion, and the Time-Trial Mode to see how you compare with the world.
On the friends screen, you can also send them "Challenges", in other words a piece of your ghost data you reckon they won't be able to beat. Makes for some great fun.

So, i feel i've covered about everything which i feel makes this a five star game. Hope it helped!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Game is great fun even though the steering wheel doesn't work well.
Got Mario Kart Wii yesterday, my kids and I played the game with the steering wheel included, and after about 10 mins, agreed that it was best to just use the other methods of control, e.g Wii remote with Nunchuck, Gamecube controller or classic controller. The steering wheel just doesn't work well, and is too analogue with too little feedback. We kept falling off. It was a nice try, and it's good to maybe go back to once in a while, but it's just a novelty. However as you can use the other 3 methods of control, then it doesn't matter.

Now that's my moan about the steering wheel out the way, on to the game.

Graphics: The Graphics are good. Everything you expect from the console. If you liked the graphics in Super Mario Galaxy then you will like this.

Sound: What you would expect, and what they had done before in the Mario Kart games.

Gameplay: Single player is great. local multiplayer is good, but Internet multiplayer is fantastic, and is really why you should get this game. I was racing with a person from Japan last night. This is the feature that sells this game.

Overall: Forget the Steering Wheel feature, get out the other controllers and battle the rest of the world.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Absolutely brilliant.
This is without a doubt the best game i have on the Wii, its even taken over the mighty Guitar Hero III - which i have been addicted to for the last 4 months. The game play is simple yet effective, the race tracks are fun and well thought out which make it such a fun game. I would strongly recommend playing Mario Kart online as this is very good value for money.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - A solid multiplayer game
Finally, Mario Kart has made it to the Nintendo Wii. In this bundle you get the game plus the official Nintendo Wii Wheel, in which you can insert a Wii Remote and control your kart with `proper' steering.

The wheel works pretty well, and as well as that you can use the Remote, Nunchuk, Classic Controller or even a Gamecube pad. So plenty of control options. After a number years using a pad in driving games, I have found the Classic Controller to be best, but the Remote/Wheel combo is fine and gets players who aren't Mario Kart veterans into the game quickly.

There are plenty of tracks on offer, a good roster of characters plus varied karts and, for the first time, bikes. These all control well and the characters each have their strengths and weaknesses which are noticeable in a race. The weapons and power-ups can still be a bit brutal and overpowered, leaving a sense of injustice in some races, but they tend to even out over a cup or lengthy racing session.

Although there are lots of tracks, most of them are recycled from previous Mario Kart games. Nintendo have been doing this for a while (the last game on the DS was similar) and the series is crying out for some more new content, especially for online races.

Yes, online. Nintendo WFC is supported and it works really well. Up to 12 people worldwide can race together and from what I've experienced so far there is no lag and tight racing. It's really good fun. As well as race and battle modes, you can also challenge lap times as ghosts can be uploaded and raced against by yourself. This is especially competitive with friends, who you can link to using friends codes.

Graphically, the game is OK. It runs fast enough (even in local 4 player mode) but it's pretty bland to look at, even taking into account the Wii's limited capabilities. The sound is virtually identical to every previous Mario Kart game. The music is often predictably pretty bad.

Mario Kart Wii is not, in many respects, a huge leap over any of its predecessors. But then these games have always been good fun, even allowing for the occasionally unfair weapon balancing, so that's not necessarily a bad thing. With 12 player online multiplayer and solid new control mechanisms it adds enough to the mix to be well worth a purchase and deserves to be in your Wii collection.
