Video Games : The Lost Crown: A Ghost-Hunting Adventure (PC DVD)

- Great game
Having played other games by creator Jonathan Boakes, I was looking forward to playing The Lost Crown. I was not disappointed.
The good - What makes Boakes' games special is the beautiful attention to detail. The locations in the game, many of them actual places on the Cornish coast, are stunning. As always, the sound effects are awesome and help create a sinister mood throughout. The story is compelling and mysterious and I preferred having a character to move around/interact with than the 1st person vantage point in Darkfall (although, that was more scary). Good fun gadgets to play with and spooky characters kept me entertained for hours.
The Bad - moving from place to place is a little tiresome - no 'jump- straight-to' function such as a map. Dialogue cannot be skipped so phrases tend to be repeated, which is a bit annoying. Also, there could have been more puzzles in the game and less 'research'. The voice acting is a bit ropey at times but I've heard worse.
Overall, though, I was totally immersed in the story and the village of Saxton. Not as scary as Darkfall but thorougly satisfying. Let's have another...

This is quite simply one of the best pc games i have ever played. The storyline is fantastic, very gripping - like a good book that you can't put down - you just want to keep going until the end!!! There is a great mix of characters and visually it is just stunning - Amazing graphics and colour scheme. And with hours and hours..... and hours of game play it is money well spent. Highly recommended!

I was led to believe that this PC game was an adaptation of the M.R.James ghost-story, A Warning to the Curious. Well, I can report that it is - and it isn't. It's an adaptation, and exploration, of many great ghost stories! Styled like an old Hammer Horror, and set in a foggy, creepy harbour town, The Lost crown was a delight from mysterious beginning, to the startling end! The writer is obviously a huge fan of the classic ghost story, and the ghost-hunting seen on Most Haunted, making this adventure game highly original and entertaining. Be warned, there are some scary scenes, likely to make you jump!

Following the adventures of a reluctant ghost-hunter, The Lost crown is a puzzlers delight! Set, for once, in good old England, the game features `real' places like Polperro, in Cornwall, and looks into the ghost stories that make those places so fascinating. You get to explore lots of locations, from creepy crypts, to isolated farmhouses, looking for ghosts using ghost-hunting gadgets...like the Night-Vision Camera, EMF Meter and EVP recorder. Some will have seen those gadgets on shows like Most Haunted, but The Lost Crown is actually scarier than that show, as the ghosts seem so real. I highly recommend this game to anyone who likes ghost-hunting, adventure stories or detective games.

We loved playing this game. The story unfolded as we solved the many puzzles and noted down the clues to the mysteries surrounding the quite creepy and isolated places of the game. My children found exploring the haunted buildings a real adventure, and we all enjoyed working out which ghost hunting tool would help uncover the clues we would need on our way to find the Lost Crown. I fully recommended this for gamers of all ages.
