The low whining noise means it's hard to hear spoken word programmes without turning the volume up loud - not good when you want to drift off to sleep. The alarm is incredibly complicated and set it takes ages - and I needed the manual. In the end, I gave up trying to change the settings to on/ off and accepted I would be woken every week day at 6.30 - even if I wasn't going to work. I then tried the CD version - thinking it might be the IPOD connection causing the noise - but that's even worse! The cd rattles and whirrs as it spins - so again you have to turn it up loud .....
