I've read and enjoyed many Dean Koontz books; in particular I've enjoyed the Odd Thomas series and was looking forward to reading this book.
I was very disappointed with what I read.
The main issue is that the storyline is just very one-dimensional. None of the characters are well developed: you find out nothing new about Odd, while you're introduced to several new characters but find out very little about any of them. During the book several questions are raised that feel key to the story but none of them are ever answered.
Overall the book just plods along with the main storyline, creating secondary storylines that are instantly forgotten about, until the main story reaches it's predictable conclusion ... Read More:

Dear Mr Koontz I am 34 yrs old and live in Liverpool. I probably won't live long enough to draw my state pension given that both my Grandparents died well before they hit 70 and the British Government have seen fit to extend the state pension age to 68. My point is I would really love to read Frankenstein 3 before I am dead not alive. Please have pity for I suffer.

The word 'graphic novel' actually means that!!
Ie a in depth comic book.
All those people who have complained should really have known this!!
As its really just common sense!
In my opinion the 'Odd Thomas' series is one of Dean Koontz best writing so if you're interested in him but dont like reading an in depth text book then this is the next best solution.

I am generally a fan of Koontz's work, have read pretty much everything published by him and always look forward to new releases. However, I found this novel extremely disappointing. There is always an element of religion and/or dog loving in Koontz, however in this story he was piling it on way too much for my liking.
The storyline was unconvincing and not up to Koontz's usual standards; it was very cheesy, a bit predictable, and in the end I found myself not caring at all about the main characters.
Read this book if you're a dedicated fan or really have nothing better to read, but don't expect anything spectacular. I would definitely not reccomend this for a first time Koontz, since you may come away disappointed and put ... Read More:

The title gives it away - Really ODD
I thought that there had to be something as Koontz is a huge best seller - So I gave it a try - Big mistake -
Story is so slow as to be pedestrian - Maybe me being a cynic did not help - He can see dead people - Right !!!
Well I do love things like this in spite of not being a believer - but when Elvis turned up enough was enough - So inspite of reading over 300 pages I could take no more and did not even have the energy to find out who dunnit -
the other irritation was the book seemed a base for Koontz to project his views on life without fear of any contradiction - Oh how wonderful for him

My first Dean Koontz book, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Not dissimilar to Stephen King; something a bit out of the ordinary and supernatural but never particularly explained or justified. Which I rather liked. The story moves along at a good lick, the characters are big and bold (if not always entirely convincing) and it's all hugely enjoyable. I was left wanting more and will definitely read more. Don't really want to go into the story as you don't want to know too much before you start. Good stuff

You cannot fault Koontz with his writing style or his fantastic ideas.
Here, the 1st-person narrative continues to brilliantly define Odd Thomas as a character, and a variety of set pieces, including the opening scene, are compelling and clever in the way they open questions and promise great mystery for the story ahead.
Whereas the original Odd Thomas managed to build mystery and deliver payoffs at a steady pace, Forever Odd never quite delivers on its promise. The problems with Forever Odd are entirely plot related. The villain doesnt get anywhere near enough space on the page. There are unanswered questions and loose ends aplenty by the end of the book. Too many loose ends can ruin the reader experience, even if the preceding story ... Read More:

Read this nearly 20 years ago and never forgotten!
Fantastic plot and characters - indeed the BEST characterisation I've ever read in SciFi/Horror. Really good pace, atmospherics and set pieces with more than enough horror BUT never crossing into gore for gore's sake.
Einstein the dog is a wonderful creation and a genuine main character - and The Other is a truly terrifying presence always lurking in the shadows.
I rate this as Koontz's best alongside the excellent Midnight.
(incidentally there have been a few Watchers movies - please avoid as they are awlful films, that do the novel no justice. If you have already seen them, please don't allow them to put you off!)

Koontz to me has been slipping, his last few books have been poor ending wise,The Good Guy carries on with the rushed ending but at least he sets the story out very well(the evil Krait is very good bad guy) and for once can be forgiven for the ending.
I enjoyed reading this book which is what a good book is all about.

It's a relatively short and easy 245-page read. Once you get the first few pages under your belt it has you hooked!
Alex is making the long journey from Philadelphia to San Francisco by car. In California a new wife and job await him. His only passenger on the journey is he intelligent but somewhat geeky and feeble companion Colin. Colin is the younger brother of Alex's new wife Courtney. He is 11 years old and desperately wants to grow close to his new stepbrother Alex. Alex also wishes their relationship to blossom and hopes that the long journey will provide an ideal catalyst for this.
Things start off well in the journey as they both play car games. However, they soon begin to suspect that a van is following them...or is it just coincidence?
