This is very much like Soros's other books: a mix of (his own) Philosophy in PART I, and its possible applicability to the Finance markets of the time in PART II.
If you like Taleb's mix of Philosophy and Finance in Fooled by Randomness: The Hidden Role of Chance in Life and in the Markets and The Black Swan: The Impact of the Highly Improbable then you'll Soros's approach.
If you're looking to emulate Soros's success, this book doesn't tell you how to do this in concrete steps. The theory of reflexivity explains the nature of financial markets (the problem) but doesn't give a solution.

Probably this book went way over my head.
The one insight I think I got from it was that during the tech boom, many of the new products were appearing, not because of some fundamental increase in the rate of innovation brought on by the Web, but because of all the money pouring into startups because investors believed the Web would lead to such innovations for technological reasons. A phenomena Soros calls "reflexivity", I guess. But even without knowing that it seemed clear a boom was in progress that would eventually bust. But how to know when? It doesn't seem this book or Soros could tell you.
I hear Soros became a billionaire through his investments and that seemed well beyond a chance event, but I didn't understand ... Read More:

An absolutely "must" for International Relations students, this book brings a modern world picture with honesty, courage and philosophy, emphasizing the challenges of our societies.
While it is difficult to map it precisely within the International Relations theories, it looks belonging to the Rationalist approach.
Well-written, it is easily read in one shot; it brings a critical approach on the G.W. Bush administration Foreign Policy, and raises the personal vision of a successful man, whom you will want to meet, even without sharing his conclusions.

Only those readers interested in Soros 'the man' as a whole -- as trader, philanthropist, and philosopher -- will find the whole book appealing.
Other readers are likely to find 1/3 to 2/3 of the book appealing. For example: I really liked PART ONE (Investing and Global Finance), kinda liked PART THREE (Philosophy), and didn't much care for PART TWO (Geopolitics, Philanthropy, and Global Change).
Philosophy students might like Soros's take on Karl Popper in PART THREE, but might not care for PART ONE. Traders will like PART ONE. Students of hitory and politics might be drawn to PART 2.
As another reviewer mentioned, Soros seems to be searching of a 'theory or everything'. But can his 'reflexivity' be that all-encompassing ... Read More:

George Soros is not a man that your average anti-capitalist or socialist can agree with, he is an extraordinarily wealthy and a driven man who "broke the Bank of England", but also man who's past is steeped in the history of Nazi occupation, and is driven by insight and compassion, he is also one of the worlds great philanthropists. If he has gone to the trouble of writing a book, "The Bubble of American Supremacy" about the recent direction of America, in it's war against terror and it's stance on democracy and the "free world", it is probably worth a read.
Indeed if you are at all clued up about the election of George Bush Junior and the history behind the war on terror, you will find a lot here to agree with. Indeed why bother? However, the book ... Read More:

As the synopsys says, this a book about how Soros views the market and current (at the time he wrote) economic theory, rather than a get-rich-quick guide. It is massively complex in the ideas presented, necessarily so. I did find my self re-reading certain pages, sections two or three times to get my head around the points he was trying to make. Having said that, I think that the ideas were as simplified and accessible as they could get, whilst retaining the points the author was trying to put across. George Soros is essentially presenting an opposite theory of how markets work to that of Scholes et al. As Soros's fund is a practical application of his theories, the successes of that may be equated with the value of what he says. However, Soros is pushing ... Read More:
