To Kill a Mockingbird

by: Harper Lee

October 05, 1989
I first read this book as a compulsory text for school and since then have read it countless number of times. It is such a beautiful story that is relevant to every society. You must take your time reading it and not rush it because there are so many hidden depths and meanings. "Shoot all the bluejays you want but remember it is a sin to kill a mockingbird". Everyone must read this book, it's beautiful.

To Kill a Mockingbird: York Notes

by: Beth Sims, Harper Lee

August 20, 2002
I found York Notes to be a great aid for my GCSE English Literature exam. The presentation is clear, it has notes on themes, language, characters etc as well as chapter-by-chapter commentaries. Personally, I preferred the Letts notes over this one, but that is probably due to personal preference and this is definitely worth buying.

To Kill a Mockingbird

by: Harper Lee

Never read this as a school text. It was recommended to me by a drunk man in a pub. All I want to say is - HOW GOOD IS THIS BOOK? It's bloody great! Books I read immediately afterwards paled next to the resonance of this great work.

To Kill a Mockingbird (Vintage Classics)

Like many youngsters, I was assigned To Kill a Mockingbird to read as a 15 year old. Unlike most, however, the assignment was for speed reading class . . . rather than American Literature.

Don't ever read this book for speed reading class.

I always intended to get back to the book for a more leisurely reading that would allow me to take in the obvious brilliance of Harper Lee in more ways. I was pleased to find that my local library offered an unabridged reading by Roses Prichard (an actress with a Ph.D. in Communications from the University of Southern California) for Books on Tape.

In the first 15 seconds, I knew I had made a winning choice. Roses Prichard turns Scout (Jean Louise) Finch into a girl you'll feel like you've ... Read More:

To Kill a Mockingbird: Cliffs Notes

by: Eva Fitzwater, Harper Lee

Harpers Lee's only book "To Kill a Mockingbird" showed to me the talant that was wasted because I felt this book showed great intelligence of ceative and a balance of seriousness. The book is situated around the life of the narrator Scout. She is a young girl living in the South of America in a racist town called Maycomb. From the town she learns of the racial predjudice towards negroes when her father, Atticus, takes on a challenging trial of defending one. And so the trouble begins, the opposition of Atticus. He's a drunk "bum" living on a skip who challanges Scouts and her brothers maturity as they cope with the dangerous events they face. The book follows the two kids as they grow up in Maycomb, and Harper Lee brings across the humour that the kids have. We follow their ... Read More:
