This book has beautiful illustrations and my son loves it. The story is a good one for children who are a bit worried about the dark. However I bought this thinking it would be the same as the one I read as a child, but with nicer illustrations. Unfortunately the story itself seems to have lost some of the more humourous aspects that I remember, like Plop the owl resembling a Catherine wheel when he tumbled out of a tree and his incessant "what's next" at feeding time...gone. I'm thinking about buying the old copy to read (mine is worn out) and showing the pictures from the new book to my son.

For those of you who have read The owl who was afraid of the dark and know her style this is a must! For those who have never read her books, this will certainly get you hooked. She writes in a very simple style, and the creatures in the story are delightful and whimsical. A must for all those who love animals. The books are light hearted and fun and perhaps they might remind you of your own little ones!! A good book for those who can read a little as no doubt the story will encourage them to progress. A good all round book, loved by me and my daughther!

A very enjoyable book, often funny that looks at the changing life stages through the eyes of a young male gorilla (Pongo). He learns about the differing roles of his family and the community in which he lives. Through play with his young sister (Whoopsie) and his friends he finds his future role in life which is to be the leader of the gorilla troop. A story that could be about any family with growing children in Britain today, that young children both enjoy reading and having read to them.

This audiobook CD is performed by Maureen Lipman ... her warm and witty character voices add a hilarious dimension to the tale. Your children will enjoy listening to it over and over ... until they know it by heart.
The story is about a young barn owl called Plop, who is afraid of the dark. The plot is divided into seven little stories. Each one is a satisfying tale in which Plop learns something new about the dark each night: dark is exciting, dark is kind, dark is fun, dark is necessary, dark is fascinating, dark is wonderful ... and dark is beautiful. Plop isn't convinced immediately, but by the seventh night he's looking at the dark through new eyes!
If you know a little someone who is afraid of the dark, then this ... Read More:

I loved this book when i was a child! A really sweet and touching book about an aarvark with an identity crisis. Definately recommended

This was my favourite book when I was five and still read it with relish now at 25. Even though the new illustrated version of Plop is lovely, and perhaps more appealing to visual-orientated children, I adore this paperback version with the black and white drawings. Plop with his little bobbles and heart-shaped ruff, the sock for Father Christmas and the old lady reminiscing! These pictures really gave the book its character for me and I had to buy a copy for my now two-year-old to enjoy.
I would let him have mine but I need it!
Classic book, buy it for nostalgia and enjoy Plop's coming of age tale in its original style!
