Anne of Green Gables

I first read Anne of Green Gables at the age of 19, and within two weeks had bought the rest of the books in the series and read them all. I still re-read them at frequent intervals and I am now 38! I would recommend this and the other books to any child or adult.

Anne of Avonlea (Puffin Classics)

The "Anne of Green Gables" series are one of my all time favourites, and this second book in the series (first published in 1909) is every bit as wonderful as the first (1908). Beautifully written and a really good read for ages 8 to adult.

In Anne of Avonlea we catch up with Anne (aged 16 and half, although I thought that she had ended up 17 at the end of Anne of Green Gables - minor glitch!) as she returns to her old school in Avonlea as the school teacher. Anne of the Island (Puffin Classics)

Anne's story continues in Anne of the Island as Anne and her friends grow up and set out on their individual paths.

The book opens as Anne's best friend, Diana Barry, gets married to her sweetheart Fred, and Anne is to move away from the island to go and study for her BA at Redmond College, with school friends Gilbert & Charlie and her old chum from Queen's, Priscilla.

Anne is still the same eternally sweet and thoughtful Anne, capable of still making the hilarious Anne-ish mistakes she's become renowned for by book three! Anne of Windy Willows (Puffin Classics)

Having loved the first three books I had high hopes for this and initially was not dissapointed but about half way through the magic seemed to end. The initial story was great but I felt the second part was quite contrived and didn't have the same magic or believabilty as the other books and too many unnecessary characters were introduced although only briefly. I am still looking forward to the next book as Anne is one of fictions most lovable characters.

Anne's House of Dreams (Puffin Classics)

Could well be my favourite Anne book. At last and inevitably Anne finds happiness with her Gilbert. Oh how jealous does that make me. How subtley does Ms Montgomery paint the relationship between the two so that every time I read it fresh nuances and delights are found hiding in the pages. When Anne describes her first hours of motherhood saying she wondered that the very angels in heaven did not envy her I shared that exact feeling on the birth of my own lovely daughter. Sadness and poignancy but joyous too. A truly wonderful read which after read so many times is still a source of inspiration and hope

6 children and they all have thier own little adventures.From spending the
night with a terrifying and rough family to being told that you're not
actually you, all the adventures are exciting and funny.Anne can understad
all these little things and can help,but she does have some problems of her
own to deal with too.I loved this book greatly and I'm sure that all 9 to
11 year olds would enjoy this book as I have done.

Chronicles of Avonlea (Children's Continuous Series)

If you're already an 'Anne of Green Gables' fan, you'll love these short stories. Each one is unique and is about different residents of Avonlea and its' surrounds. Laugh out loud with some - they're every bit as entertaining as the 'Anne' books themselves.

Don't expect to find too much of 'Anne' herself in these stories though. She often gets a mention, but no more than that. These stories are about other residents in Avonlea and are great for giving extra depth and fullness to the novels about Anne. 12 tales in total - I loved them all!

Emily of New Moon (Children's Continuous Series)

I love Anne of Green Gables and thought this book would be just as good.

Emily is a spoilt brat. She seems to think, along with everyone else at New moon farm, that being a Murrey means you are better than everybody else. She is always feeling sorry for herself. the way she goes on about aunt Elizabeth, who is really a big softie, is very annoying. Her teacher had a perfect right to tell her off when she was writing poetry instead of doing her maths, and yet she goes on about how mean she is.


She only become friends with people who are either clever, determind, or pretty, most people don't seem good enough for herto be with according to the book.
