Nigella's Christmas book is utterly fabulous.. like the lady herself. Beautiful to look at, rich sumptuous and full of good ideas.
The recipes and ideas for gifts are sublime and the whole colourful book makes me happy just reading it. Lovely Christmassy colours of red and green with lashings of gold and sparkly bits. Naturally there are fabulous drinks too.
By the way, the reviewer who says she will never put chocolate in her Christmas cake does not know what she is missing, that cake with the chocolate and prunes is simply THE BEST CAKE EVER I baked that last year and it was eaten in 3 days and I had to make another one. Usually cake is hanging around well into the New Year. I have just purchased lovely snowflake ... Read More:

It's my first Nigella's book and it's truly wonderful. Easy to make and follow recipes and beautiful pictures. Not to mention her enchanting writing style.
So far I have tried couple of recipes and they all have turned out great.
One thing which I'd complain about a little, Nigella doesn't really season her meat but adding salt and pepper is my contribution to the recipes :).
This is the book when you want to fix something yummie for dinner but you're running out of time.
Mouth-watering recipes with honest & humerous additions and explanations to encourage you through them. Although some of the recipes look & sound a little advanced you never know until you try, and as the author explains some of the most wonderful recipes are created by mistake.
Admittedly i've mostly attempted sweet treats but the Cornish Pasty recipe was divine, I substituted the mince for butternut squash and made a vegetarian version. Thats another bonus of this book, many recipes have variations at the end, meaning once you've got your confidence you can experiment safe in the knowlegde that it wont ruin it by changing bits.
My book is covered in splashes of this & that ... Read More:

I love reading this cookbook. I love how the book has different ideas for different feasts. I made the jewelled cupcakes for christmas. They were really marvellous and looked just like the picture. Everyone who came home during Christmas loved them... they looked fantastic and tasted even better..

I like the way Nigella writes- it's as if you're having a conversation with her. The introduction to each recipe is always good, a bit of historical information or personal anecdote that makes wonderful reading.
I've made a few dishes from "How to Eat" and I think her stews do work as well as making the best roast chicken, beef & gravy!
I would recommend the following:
Basic Roast Chicken- pp. 8-9
Chicken & Chick pea Tagine- pp. 111-2
Beef Stew w/ anchovies & thyme- pp. 112-3
Braised Pheasant w/ mushrooms & bacon- pp. 114-5 (I used chicken for this)
Chicken Stew w/ couscous- pp. 228-229
Roast beef & gravy- pp. 278-80

Nigellas book for me are like having a big sister in the kitchen with you talking you through something in a friendly, none threatening way.
I must say when I read a few reviews that gave one star I began to wonder if I was reading my book right. But I figured that Nigellas way of cooking, presenting her food and the recipes themselves are never going to be everyones cup of tea. I find Nigellas recipes quite retro with the right about of modern added to them to balance them.
If you have yet to purchase this book I can recommend all the recipes but give a particular thumbs up to:
The Kerela style omelette with green chutney. I have no ties to Kerela but can safely say omelettes are made the same way across the pond in Karachi. ... Read More:

This is a stalwart in my kitchen. In fact I may have to buy another copy because some of the most used pages are now stuck together and the cover is a distant memory. In this book there is something for every occasion from the simple to the incredibly technical. Each recipe is well laid out and easy to follow and the whole thing is a joy.
The only recipe I have ever had a problem with is the chocolate brownies, but I think that's down to my brownie pan. Everything else I have ever tried has been 100% perfect. The Autumnal Birthday cake is a particular highlight in our family, as is the dense chocolate loaf cake. My particular favourite is the dark chocolate mousse cake, which sounds complicated but really isn't and is well worth a go.
We have also tried many of the savoury ... Read More:
