This book is quite light-hearted, and as another review says, probably contains everything you need to pass- get a C grade. It doesn't, however, contain the information i would personally say you need for the A*-B Therefore is better for foundation. I have now bought the York Notes revision book, which is much better for higher grades!!!

This anthology in both its volumes contains both complete works of literature, and extracts. It has a wide variety of poetry prose and drama chosen by a wide variety of editors. Not only does it run chronologically through English literature history, it contains collections of extracts based on subjects which have interested the editors. For example the first edition has a section of literature called "Women in Power."
This structure allows for both a student exploring literature through the ages and for someone who is simply interested.
The only real problem is that I can spend hours flicking through this anthology, perhaps without reading anything! There is so much to take in, and so little time to do it.

Wow this book really is great! It lists all the poems and annotates them with critical information you can use for your aqa a english language essays telling you all the key themes, feelings and attitudes towards the poem and lanuage used. Then if thats not enough it gives you sample essays by top class students on titles that regualarly come up in the exams. At the end of the book it gives you the common themes of all the poems allowing you to compare each poem in the essay. If your teacher doesnt know their stuff or your struggling to remember the class work this will explain each poem and help you get a good grade in your gcse. "I very much doubt i would have passed my gcse without it." I really recommend you buy it!

This book has a lot of useful exercises to do at home between classes to practise all the new grammar that's been introduced in the different chapters. It also has a key to all the exercises so you can check them yourself.
A word of warning though. The instructions aren't always very clear, particularly not to beginners, so you might need a teacher to explain them to you. There are also no explanations so it's not always easy to see what you've done wrong and why it's wrong. Furthermore, there's a lot of typos, both in the main part of the book and in the answer section so don't always accept something as wrong, do ask your teacher if you think it's supposed to be right.

Dante's Inferno tells of a fantastic journey into the inner circles of Hell and was written in the early 14th century. Dante uses himself as the main character and his lierary hero, Virgil, as his guide given to him by his lost love Beatrice. What follows is a moving tale which details Dantes travels through the different realms where sinners live out their horrific punishments. He meets well known people (such as Homer, Ovid and Judas Iscariot), but also talks to a lot of his political rivals that he met during his time in Florence (before his eventual exile).
There isn't much in the way of a storyline, but what there is is a frightening depictiction of this terrible plane of existance, and at times it feels as if he himself struggles to write. ... Read More:

The Collins published playscript has pretty much everything you need to start preparing for an amateur production. It has a full script with stage directions and song lyrics as one would expect, but also an excellent appendix giving suggestions and advice on producing the play, including sketches of various stage set-ups and usable designs for making functioning splurge-guns, etc.
With a section of profiles on the characters from the story (fully illustrated with photographs from the movie) as well as an introduction by Alan Parker himself, this really is a terrific practical buy for those working in Drama as well as a delightful read for fans of the film.

I needed it for my Higher course, but when it came through the door i thought it was the wrong thing. I mean it has cartoons!!! But after using it in class i realised just how helpful it was. Theres loads of notes, and little passages describing whats going on (in plain English for those not able to determine who's just died, as there is a lot of that! I mean it is Shakespeare after all!!!). But it's still is perfectly acceptable for senior school studies,
It makes reading it almost as enjoyable as watching Leonardo DiCaprio splash around in that pool!
