This is one of those books that thinks it is sooooo cool. Lots of glossy double page spreads of dirty print shops & used squeegees. If, like me, you actually want to get some in-depth tips for printing then go somewhere else. I have a basic idea about screen printing and have done single colour T shirts. I want to get into 4 colour separations etc but there's none of that here. It is for absolute beginners but maybe more appropriate for Nathan Barleyesque posers who need something to put on a corian surface in their quayside loft apartment. Pants. I'm sending mine back.

I bought this looking for some introductory techniques to screenprinting, as I am keen to produce some limited prints cheaply in bold graphic colour, and this process was my next logical move. The book is titled 'simple screenprinting; basic techniques and creative projects' and one cannot fault that it is indeed 100% that. This is exactly what I need to guide me gently into 'dipping my toe' into the process and this book does this with no fuss in a well illustrated no-nonsense way. It has plenty of inspirational projects that get the creative mind going, and covers a lot of ground as intros go. I'm giving it 5 stars because it hasn't pretended to be much more than an informative opener to screenprinting, and for a few pounds it has done this. I ... Read More:

This is an excellent book, which offers plenty of techniques ideas and styles including examples of artist's work to illustrate the possibilities of printing. I used this for teaching inspiration for my year ten class. I initially borrowed this book from the library and it is now eagerly awaited from Father Xmas...

This book is a joy. It is a joy to touch, to hold, to read and to study the most excellent reproductions of Bewick's tiny works. I live close to Bewick's birthplace and this book has inspired me with a new ardour for the Tyne Valley, its people and Natural History and, of course, the prodigious talents of Thomas Bewick and family.

If you are interested in anything oriental, then this book should be of great interest to you. Gives great ideas to the uninspired artist, and allows you to see art and watercolours which are full of expression and humour. Worth getting.

This is a book based on natural organism that we rarely see and yet the forms and shapes are amazing it is like seeing the creatures for the deep which exsist but we rarely see, the ones that seem so alien to us when we do get to see pictures of them.
This is one of the books that i have used over and over to inspire me for new projects.
i have also given or recogmended this book to countless amount of people in various craft fields from knitters to embroiders to jewellers and potters.
it is one of the inspiration sources that Antonio Gaudi used for some of his designs.

Jane Stobart has considerable experience of teaching both art students, and keen amateurs, and this shows in the lucid explanations of all the processes, examples of what works best, and the avoidance of pitfalls.
This book is particularly invaluable to anyone working without the full studio presses and equipment (although these are, of course covered) because alternative methods of taking a print are described in full. Alternatives to solvents and oil-based inks are available, and their use explained.
I have used the book for various of my own projects, which, thanks to the information and explanations given, have turned out very well. I am not a professionally trained artist, but thanks to Jane Stobart, I have achieved "professional" ... Read More:
