Feel Fab at 50

Body shape is crucial to finding clothes that flatter, as they determine the fabrics and styles that will move with you and not add on pounds. I think that S&T, though I am a fan, have moved away from the traditional image shapes such as pear and apple and come up with many more, probably unnecessarily. You really only need to understand where the curves or straight lines of your silhoutte appear and dress them accordingly. So a straight hipped woman with no bum would look great in a straight skirt in a stiff fabric. Curves need drape to skim. It's really quite simple. It was good to see proportions addressed and the photo's were also good. Is it the best book on the subject - not really - but it's a start for someone ... Read More:

Just bought this - an excellent purchase. Full of inspiring examples, great ideas to try out, and hints and tips - all illustrated with clear colour photos. Recommended for anyone doing City & Guilds - especially the "Creative Computing into Textiles" course.

This was the first book of katie's that i read and i really enjoyed it. She is very forward about everything she says and isn't afraid to speak what's on her mind! Thats what i love about it, it's just about her. It's a great read and i would recommend anyone to get it, it would be money well spent! :)

As a retail interior designer, this book is a must for those coming up the ranks to understand world wide retail concepts....

If you want a fresh, modern approach to VM this is the book for you... whilst there are other more established writers out there, Morgan has a 21st century approach to VM, fit for a modern world. Its simplistic, stylish approach is just what you need... when is the coffee table version out?

What a great book! If you are thinking about doing a degree in fashion design, this is the perfect book to help you decide realistically if this is for you or not. Despite concentrating on the syllabus of a typical fashion design degree it still gives an amazing amount of information regarding many different things.

This is not a how-to-sew book, but if you are thinking about fashion design this book will prepare you and let you know what to expect from a degree.

It has a modern layout and is beautifully and generously illustrated with many pictures. I picked it up expecting a book describing the course, but it is so much more and is a wonderful and fascinating read, taking you through every step of fashion design.

Ive never written a review for amazon before despite buying the majority of my book/cd collection from here. The other reviews on this book though were a great help when I was deciding whether to purchase which is why im writing this one. The first thing to note about the book is its size. Its a big old bumper book and has lots of content. Not too much writing, mostly just footnotes across the bottom. It has lots of different figure templates. Different body sizes and poses. I cheated a little a traced the outline and then freehanded my designs over the top (My creativity is not matched by artistic talent unfortunately so I find it difficult to get proportions correct.) I bought this book in my last year of college and although i have been a professional fashion designer for years now i still believe this to be a bible for anyone in the clothing industry. Not only will it inform of the tips and techniques used in couture, The book will also inspire you to gain more knowledge in bespoke/couture and as result your own work and designs will florish, Trully brilliant well done Mrs Shaeffer.

I must finish with a warning though, This book is not for beginners and will only confuse those who are starting out. As the saying goes learn to walk before learning to run this book is for those who can run and have been working in the fashion industry or at home for some years.

Whilst i did enjoy this book it was not as good as the other books Imogen Edward-Jones has written. Still very funny and a good insight into the world with funny stories about celebs. If you enjoy this book then you will love the rest of the series

Metric Pattern Cutting for Women's Wear

This book is a good starter but there are many printing errors (wrong instructions, missing instructions) so beware. It also assumes that you are familiar with some pattern cutting techniques. If you are an absolute beginner it would be useful to have someone in the know to ask as at times it is possible to become absolutely stuck. If you are studying pattern cutting this would be a really useful book to have. If you are learning by yourself, you may find this book to be a little frustrating.
