Amazon keep asking me to review this even though I never actually received it! I did receive the Polish course and assume this is in a similar style, which is to say based around conversational Spanish with minimal formal lessons (grammar and such). On that basis I'll give it the same score as the Polish edition...

I liked to take this class. Michel Thomas has a wonderful style. I must say that he is as good teaching you to speak French as SmartFrench is good at helping you to understand French - They are one dynamic duo!

The content is fine - nothing to write home about, and certainly not earth shattering - you still have to do the hard work, mainly staying awake...but, the packaging is awful! What a waste of bookshelf space - a slimline double cd jewel case would have been perfect and sat happily with the rest of the cds.

There were aspects of DF's memoirs that I loved - the style for one, I loved the originality of writing non-existent letters to everyone from her dad (beatifully poignant) to her first snog (very amusing) to tell her tale..
And then there were the bits that I hated - it felt over-hammed at times and some of the jokes were interminable and boring. Sometimes it felt as though she was trying a little bit too hard to be 'funny Dawn French' and I was disappointed by this.
However, moving back swiftly to a final, positive note, there are letter upon letter of genuinely very moving and frank accounts of Dawn's life - from the early days and beyond - and I did enjoy reading it. I felt it was honest, sometimes gushing and at times brutal (she dislikes ... Read More:

This is an amazing item, I have tried many diferent techniques to learn Italian and this is by far the best. I really do encourage you to buy this you won't regret it. The voices used are really good as well, they saying everything clearly allowing you to understand quicker. The music is also an added bonus it allows the words to stick in your brain faster, and makes the experience alot more enjoyable. With this product its not a matter of having to use it, but you want to use it. Fantastic.

As someone who has wanted to learn Italian for ages, and who is also busy, when I saw this item, I was excited and it gave me the impetus to actually do something about my desire to speak Italian.

I'm at a slight advantage, having taken an A Level in Latin, that it was easy for me to pick up.

As for the product itself, while it won't get you a GCSE, it'll more than cover you in holding a conversation and going on holiday without being a typical bumbling Brit abroad.

You get 2 CDs and a book, and can work with the 2 together, so listening and reading, or you can take a CD with you on the move. As an audio-visual person, I found it easier with the book, I must admit. It is not at all taxing and you pick things up very quickly. ... Read More:

The Easy Learning Polish course is nicely paced and the spoken audio is much clearer than a lot of language courses. There are a lot of new sounds in Polish to get your head around (it often sounds like somebody impersonating a chainsaw to the untrained English ear) so the way new words are clearly enunciated on the audio is very important. Though I've not yet had a chance to test my new-found skills in Poland yet, the course has so far given me enough confidence to impress my Polish business partners with basic greetings pleasantries.

I agree with the majority of the reviewers below. the common complaint is that this is not advanced? Well that is arguably the case but if you have a basic understanding of French and you want to take youreself into the A level (which incidentally stands for advanced) then I recommend this set. The fact that I took A level French many years ago and this set clarifies tenses better than any teacher I have experienced says it all- and now I am relatively comfortable with 19 YES 19 tenses after this course (even the subjunctive!!).
I would also add that his advice at the end of the cd is priceless I just wish he managed to produce a further course.And he has got rid of the dithering student from the introductory course which was frustrating. The man was a genius.

I have had this for a while but wanted to give it a good go before reviewing.
The package comes with a book & 3 CD's. All are well presented & are easy to use.
The step by step/ sentence by sentence format works well but it really is only for beginners. The phrases are very basic and will only get you so far in real life.
However as a tool for teaching children this has some merit. It is clear & easily learnt & taught and with just a phrase a night your child could be helped on the 1st steps to learning another language! So too if you do not speak a word of French then this is a good starter though really you would be better off getting a course that takes you from beginner to a bit further than this.

The first thing to say is that the Michel Thomas way is perfect for me. I did his Spanish course and it gave me the motivation to take conversation lessons. The big problem is not the saying or reading of a language, it is the listening to others and understanding what they are saying that is difficult. So, having completed the Italian course I feel very confident with the structure and cognate vocabulary, and I just need to practice. Having followed Michel Thomas's Spanish course in the past I have to say that I found the Italian version less comprehensive than the Spanish. There seems to be a lot of time spent on the will and would, and the stressed 'r' on the word endings.
