Sadly this is the case with "Rose Daughter," Robin McKinley's second adaptation of the traditional Beauty and the Beast fairy tale. It overflows with pretty images and words, but there doesn't seem to be a lot underneath them. Beauty's mother died when she was only a tiny child, leaving her with only the memory of roses. Because magicians failed to predict her mother's death in a riding accident, her father turned against magic completely, even though it ruined his business. Then one of his ships turns up again. . Buried Alive: The Elements of LoveChildrens Toy Shop > Books > Love and Romance by: Ralph J. Fletcher 1996-04 Sometimes poetry really strikes a chord with me, and reading this i felt like the author had not just struck a chord in me, but a whole symphany. i realize this sounds melodramatic, but that's the way that love in a teenager is. melodramatic, out of focus half the time, but real, raw, almost tangible. Mr. Fletcher somehow became a teenager again when he wrote this, because i don't think it's possible for someone over 19 to really understand the way a 16 year old loves her boyfriend, no matter how flawed he is. A masterpiece. |

It tended to be very confusing at times during which were slightly off-putting. Very humourous in some places though. it is a good book to read if you have a bit of common sense. |
